75% of Oklahoma high school students don't know who the first president of the US was
Are Americans dumb or what? A friend of mine, a college teacher, was looking over his teacher evaluation, written by his students. One of his students wrote that that he, the teacher, "No his stuff." How do you get out of fourth grade not knowing how to spell "know"?

It is scary. Any countries in the world better than America? It seems a universal problem.
ReplyDeleteIf it were up to me, the Messiah would have focused on education this year, and delayed health care reform to a later year. Education reform is much more important in my opinion than health care reform.

ReplyDeleteAbout 92 percent of the people who take the citizenship test pass on their first try, according to immigration service data. However, Oklahoma students did not fare as well. Only about 3 percent of the students surveyed would have passed the citizenship test.
This disgraceful state of affairs has a lot to do with testing...again. Our state, for example, dropped the testing of Social Studies achievement. We have been told to concentrate on Reading, Writing, Math, and Science and to fill in with Social Studies only as a means to teach Reading. Our Social Studies textbook is 12 years old!
