French presidential slate

Monsieur "Pepe Le Pew" Psychozy is not in this line-up of French presidential candidates but the rest of the appalling gang is there. What does it say about the state of democracy when candidate slates are drawn from the cartoons? For US voters, there's a shameful sense of relief that buffoonery & idiocy aren't unique to US electoral politics. How can the way forward be through the ballot box when elections are so much like comedy routines & clown shows? Whatever happened to the great French Revolution?
