Homeless in Beijing
Homeless in Beijing, China: a woman & her child begging outside the walls of the Forbidden City. A state calling itself socialist with one of the biggest economies in the world ought to be able, minimally, to provide housing to its citizens. Despite the immense failings of the USSR & the wretched quality of the housing, outright homelessness was virtually unknown while homelessness & begging on the streets is a common sight in China. Safe, suitable, & affordable housing is one of the most urgent issues facing billions of people around the world. Governments that stand in the way of that elementary human need will have to be given the Tahrir Square treatment & brought down. (Photo by Wided Khadraoui)
