Greek farmers protest tax increases
Greek farmers are protesting tax increases which are part of IMF-imposed austerity policies. The increases push up their production costs & consequently the price of food. The farmers are demanding a reduced VAT on agricultural products & lower fuel prices. Protestors disrupted traffic on some highways & distributed over 50 tons of free fruits & vegetables to the thousands of pensioners & unemployed. Here they are outside the Agriculture Ministry in Athens. What can be better than protest which is also an act of solidarity? (Photo by Louisa Gouliamaki/AFP)
