US sending weapons to Somalia

The US has revealed it is sending weapons and cash to the Somali government to aid its fight against al Shabab.
The US state department said on Thursday it was "concerned" about whether the government of Sharif Ahmed could be overwhelmed by fighters from the group.

  1. "The rebels used long knives to cut off a hand and a foot each from four young men in Mogadishu as punishment for theft, witnesses said."
"The horrific nature of such acts that were carried out in front of a crowd adds further injustice and dehumanizes these teenagers," said rights group Amnesty International.
Al-Shabab has carried out executions, floggings and amputations before, mainly in the southern port of Kismayu."

    More religiously inspired "law".

Now, the US is sending weapons to the Islamic courts to get rid of the Shabab who have almost united the country! Next, when the Shabab lose power, they will receive US weapons to get rid of a new movement that has almost united the country ECT...</span>

  3. I hope you are not trying to make sense of decisions made by the State Department. Impossible.

  4. No, you miss the point as usual vza - which is anything to keep the country fragmented. I know it is difficult for you,  but you have to try to understand the reprobate goals of the murderers and thieves you say represent you.  How else are they going to get what they want except by division? It is ok vza, you keep defending it, and some day you will find your portrait like Dorian Gray, when reality rips through it like a knife it will have a like result.

  6. Yes.  It was most defintely better under the Ethiopians.

Amnesty International said today that Ethiopian troops who support the Somalian government, which is backed by the UN, were killing civilians, slitting people’s throats and gang-raping women.

  7. Well no, it does not automatically follow that because I express disdain for the religiously inspired enforcers, I am endorsing the Ethiopian enforcers.

  8. Wow!, a literary allusion to make a point. That's certainly an improvement over your usual vulgar insults.

  9. VZA, I don't understand what V is saying. What is America's interest in Somalia. Somalia is one of the poorest countries on earth. Somalia has nothing the rest of the world wants.

The only reason the rest of the world even cares is because:
    1) AQ linked networks control substantial parts of Somalia
    2) humanitarian concerns

  13. Yes. The world cares about Somalia for three reasons:

    1) AQ linked networks
    2) protecting sea lanes (Indian, Chinese and Japanese navies are all playing a large role)
    3) humanitarian concerns.
