Toilets or hydroelectric dams?
At least imperial China had some haut culture--even if it was denied to everyone except the imperial elite. But the new capitalist entrepreneurs in modern China apparently didn’t draw on that heritage when they designed this restaurant in Shanghai where the new monied class dines in elegance. Is it because China still hasn’t provided indoor plumbing to most people because it has other priorities like building hydroelectric dams!? So that toilets seem a luxury to be flaunted & not a thing one does in private!? (Photo by Peter Parks/AFP)
