The human face of colonialism & plunder
One needs to be careful not to exploit human suffering, especially that of children, but this photo of Congolese children displaced by warfare for multinational plunder is worth a thousand lies. Their fathers are murdered, their mothers & sisters raped, they are displaced to squalor. Their life expectancy is 46 years--if they’re lucky. This is colonialism & imperialism. This is about blood diamonds, blood gold, & the blood minerals in our cell phones, computers, play stations--& this is a call to action. We need to inform ourselves, mobilize, & evangelize against these crimes. These are our brothers & sisters & we face the same enemies: corporate predators. (Photo by Jerome Delay/AP)
