Saudi beauty queen: Veiled face and judged on morals
Sukaina al-Zayer is an unlikely beauty queen hopeful. She covers her face and body in black robes and an Islamic veil, so no one can tell what she looks like. She also admits she's a little on the plump side.
But at Saudi Arabia's only beauty pageant, the judges don't care about a perfect figure or face. What they're looking for in the quest for Miss Beautiful Morals is the contestant who shows the most devotion and respect for her parents.

It sounds a little...odd, but then, here in the U.S. several beauty queens have lost their titles over supposed moral failings (nude pictures, smoking pot).
ReplyDeleteYes one puzzling thing for my head.
ReplyDeleteThey dont want to have something to do with the western pageants and I agree with that, what a way to make women look ridiculous!!!
But still they felt some complex??? Why have any type of pageant?
Why frame it in this way???
Who are they to say whether anyone respects their parents or not?
ReplyDeleteThose are all good questions. Why not just give her some award for being, I dunno, Best Daughter, why put it in the trappings of a pageant? And like molly said, how do they judge how good a daughter she is?
ReplyDeleteIf they are not good revolutionary rappers i do not want to know them :) lol
ReplyDeleteI guess they are observed for some days,,,,,
