Gaza Christians question timing of Benedict visit to Palestine

Pope Benedict XVI's upcoming trip to the Holy Land will be bittersweet for Gaza's tiny Catholic community, angry the pontiff is not also visiting their impoverished coastal strip. "We will ask him why he came, what he intends on saying to the Christians, the Jews, the Muslims and why he isn't coming to Gaza," said Father Manuel Mussalem.

  3. The good thing about Benedict XVIth is that he's very old and there is only one more Pope to go.

  4. I'm confused by what you mean about there only being one more pope to go, Anonymous? What happens after that?

  5. The Prophecy of the Popes, attributed to Saint Malachy, is a list of 112 short phrases in Latin. They purport to describe each of the Roman Catholic popes (along with a few anti-popes), beginning with Pope Celestine II (elected in 1143) and concluding with a later added pope described in the prophecy as "Peter the Roman", whose pontificate will end in the destruction of the city of Rome. Benedict XVth is Pope number 111, according to Saint Malachy count. Just one more to go.

  17. Only one more Pope after Joseph Ratzinger? Personally, I think the Catholic Church is going to be around for a long time. As long as there are people who find the whole premise of Catholicism plausible and are willing to shell out a few bucks to be entertained on Sundays-and there are warehouses full of treasure in the Vatican(and bank accounts)-there will be somebody willing to dress up like Liberace to get control of it all. This simple formula has enabled the Church to withstand a lot more than some cryptic prophecy.
