American honor killings

In the US, 23 women are killed by husbands or boyfriends EVERY WEEK (more than those killed in Jordan per year). Yet, the US media only notice the murder of women in Muslim lands. The factors that cause death and injury to women in the West and East are the same: but the Western media are oblivious of the factors in the West. They think that they are free and equal.

  1. I am not saying our problem is not as big, but you can't really say it's much bigger. Their population is about 6 million, ours 306 million.

  2. 23 per week? OMG that's a startling statistic! The problem of domestic violence does get attention in the US media, maybe not enough attention.

The big difference between Jordan and the US is that in the US the killers are jailed for decades or for life; sometimes they are put to death. In Jordan they get 6 months to a few years.

  3. I would support much harsher punishments for anyone engaged in that criminal act.
Even if there is tougher penalties in the U.S.A it does Not seem that is acting as detterence to stop crimes against women.
I think it is more of a cultural issue where women are exploited every day on the television and media for money because sex sells.
Thats the only reason why I would think that the punishments killers get in the U.S.A. are not a detterrence against more crime.
I do not want my son to grow up in a country where he thinks it is Ok to call women: bitch, whore, slut, and all the other insults.
I dont want my daughter to grow in a country where the whole year she starves her self so that for spring break she can go "girls gone wild" style to spring break and wear a bikini while drunk to impress disgusting men.
I think I am safe to say that we have many many issues with women in the Middle East but we display much more respect to women in our society than in other cultures...
There is a reason why Yasmina said she felt safer in Jordan than in other places in Los Angeles.

  4. Violence Against Women in the United States: Statistics

Despite the fact that advocacy groups like NOW have worked for two decades to halt the epidemic of gender-based violence and sexual assault, the numbers are still shocking. It is time to renew our national pledge, from the President and Congress on down to City Councils all across the nation to END violence against women and men, girls and boys. This effort must also be carried on in workplaces, schools, churches, locker rooms, the military, and in courtrooms, law enforcement, entertainment and the media. NOW pledges to continue our work to end this violence and we hope you will join us in our work.
    MURDER

In 2005, 1,181 women were murdered by an intimate partner.1 That's an average of three women every day. Of all the women murdered in the U.S., about one-third were killed by an intimate partner.2
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE (Intimate Partner Violence or Battering)

Domestic violence can be defined as a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over an intimate partner.3 According to the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, women experience about 4.8 million intimate partner-related physical assaults and rapes every year.4 Less than 20 percent of battered women sought medical treatment following an injury.5
    SEXUAL VIOLENCE

According to the National Crime Victimization Survey, which includes crimes that were not reported to the police, 232,960 women in the U.S. were raped or sexually assaulted in 2006. That's more than 600 women every day.6 Other estimates, such as those generated by the FBI, are much lower because they rely on data from law enforcement agencies. A significant number of crimes are never even reported for reasons that include the victim's feeling that nothing can/will be done and the personal nature of the incident.7
    THE TARGETS

Young women, low-income women and some minorities are disproportionately victims of domestic violence and rape. Women ages 20-24 are at greatest risk of nonfatal domestic violence8, and women age 24 and under suffer from the highest rates of rape.9 The Justice Department estimates that one in five women will experience rape or attempted rape during their college years, and that less than five percent of these rapes will be reported.10 Income is also a factor: the poorer the household, the higher the rate of domestic violence -- with women in the lowest income category experiencing more than six times the rate of nonfatal intimate partner violence as compared to women in the highest income category.11 When we consider race, we see that African-American women face higher rates of domestic violence than white women, and American-Indian women are victimized at a rate more than double that of women of other races.12
    IMPACT ON CHILDREN

According to the Family Violence Prevention Fund, "growing up in a violent home may be a terrifying and traumatic experience that can affect every aspect of a child's life, growth and development. . . . children who have been exposed to family violence suffer symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, such as bed-wetting or nightmares, and were at greater risk than their peers of having allergies, asthma, gastrointestinal problems, headaches and flu." In addition, women who experience physcial abuse as children are at a greater risk of victimization as adults, and men have a far greater (more than double) likelihood of perpetrating abuse. 13
IMPACT ON HEALTH AND SOCIAL SERVICES

The Centers for Disease Control estimates that the cost of domestic violence in 2003 was more than over $8.3 billion. This cost includes medical care, mental health services, and lost productivity. 14
    LEGISLATION

In 1994, the National Organization for Women, the NOW Legal Defense and Education Fund (now called Legal Momentum), the Feminist Majority and other organizations finally secured passage of the Violence Against Women Act, which provided a record-breaking $1.6 billion to address issues of violence against women.15 However it took nearly an additional year to force the Newt Gingrich-led Congress to release the funding. An analysis estimated that in the first six years after VAWA was passed, nearly $14.8 billion was saved in net averted social costs.16 VAWA was reauthorized in 2005, with nearly $4 billion in funding over five years.17
    VIOLENCE BETWEEN SAME-SEX COUPLES

According to the National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs, "domestic violence affecting LGBT individuals continues to be grossly underreported . . . there is a lack of awareness and denial about the existence of this type of violence and its impact, both by LGBT people and non-LGBT people alike."18

Myths regarding gender roles perpetuate the silence surrounding these abusive relationships; for example, the belief that there aren't abusive lesbian relationships because women don't abuse each other. Shelters are often unequipped to handle the needs of lesbians (as a women-only shelter isn't much defense against a female abuser), and transgendered individuals. Statistics regarding domestic violence against LGBT people are unavailable at the national level, but as regional studies demonstrate, domestic violence is as much as a problem within LGBT communities as it is among heterosexual ones.19

  5. I found this on a Christian website, it is dated April 2, 2009. I am wondering if there are some Christians that believe that is ok to "sometimes" slap there wives (just like there are some Stupid Muslims) but what I am wondering is why the NYT, Wapo, Cnn, HRW, all those other organizations that focus on every breath that Muslims take do not ever speak out against how historically Christians were abusive to women and how since the U.S.A. is a Christian nation with such a High rate of violence against women, is it time to investigate if maybe there is something wrong with Christianity that leads men to think they can beat Women?

Is It OK For A Christian Husband to Gently Beat His Wife?

    http://christwire.org/2009/04/is-it-ok-for-a-christian-husband-to-gently-beat-his-wife/

April 2, 2009 by Chuck Reagan

Over the last several weeks, some ‘concerned’ readers sent sporadic emails to our intern staff about a column where we discussed the tendency of wives to get a bit loquacious at inappropriate moments, and how a good husband may go about politely handling a sassy woman.

I forwarded the following suggestion to the community:

“…sometimes in marriage the grave and solemn responsibility to politely tell the wife to be quiet and stay in her place falls upon every husband.

Being fickle and temperamental, women do not always respond to gentle words so at times a swift, backhanded slap across the face must be applied to them. This usually gets their attention and sets order straight.”

Now, I expressed the seriousness of such a situation and indicated that when cause arises, where a man must put an uppity feminist acting wife in her place, that the actions should be loving, kind and swift; much like the wrath of God when he warns you to stop sinning.

Unfortunately, some liberals out there got the wrong idea and suggested that I promoted some form of sot-ridden domestic abuse, one even having the audacity to suggest I’m ‘a drunk barbarian hick masquerading under the guise of educated morality’.

There is nothing drunk or barbaric about God’s law.

  6. You should read those comments in the article I posted above, its Christian Taliban in the U.S.A.

    Here is some other thing
    History of Wife Beating
    Woman's Subordination to Man

    http://cultural-anthropology.suite101.com/article.cfm/history_of_wife_beating#ixzz0CZv3epHR

This article provides a summation of the historical roots of wife beating. The influences of the Middle Ages and Christianity on wife beating are discussed.

Men have beaten women for centuries and have avoided the severe and just consequences for their actions. Domestic violence has been an acceptable, clandestine method of behavior. In 1985, Dickstein and a team of paleopathologists from the Medical College of Virginia identified massive skull fractures among mummies 2000-3000 years old. They found that:

    * 30-50% of the skull fractures were women
    * 9-20% of the skull fractures were men

In primitive societies, women had great power in clans and held honorable and esteemed positions. Their power resulted from their ability to create life. However, through the passing of civilizations, women soon realized that the threat of rape and economic survival were realistic factors forcing them in to seek monogamous relationships (Engels, as cited in Sonkin, 1987). Engels acknowledged how “women paid dearly for the personal protection they sought”.

  7. Just to be clear what is the tie between Christians who supported wife beating and with the rate of domestic violence in the U.S.A. today? And if there is some relation why did not anyone investigate it before??? And why does nobody still talk about these things in the American media?
In the Arab media we do talk about wife beating and all those other issues as it relates to us. You wont pick up an Arab newspaper and read about the huge epedimic of wife beating in the U.S.A. we talk about domestic violence in our own countries because we know we have problems.
But I wonder why when I read the American media I spend more time reading "experts" talking about these issues with Muslims and Arabs than reading what they think of domestic violence in there own country.

Can it be censorship or hypocrisy?

  9. Is this blog real or is it a front for some sort of anti-Arab movement? What has me confused is an article that Iraqi Mojo just posted on his blog which is all about how backwards Iraqis are and how Saddam is just the product of Arab backwardness and how Arabs need to stop blaming everyone in the universe for how backwards they are and just realize that they are the backward ones.
It's an article that Molly apparently sent to Iraqi Mojo.
So why does someone (Molly) that harbors such deep resentment towards the Arab world (Molly) bother pretending to be someone who gives a shit about the Arab world? You can scroll down to see Mojo thanking Molly.

Saddam was a product of Iraqi backwardness

"Saddam did not come from Mars. He came from the village of Awja. His character was shaped on the streets of Baghdad when, along with his clan, calling itself Baathist, he engaged in fist fights with other clans who called themselves communists, Nasserites and other unfitting titles borrowed from modern times.

In Iraq, Saddam was not the cause of Iraqi backwardness, but rather its product. And in his absence and the ensuing vacuum, intelligence operatives from neighbouring countries found an opportunity to settle scores with America on the one hand, and among themselves on the other. The result was five years of Iraqi bloodshed.

This is the sad story of Iraq and most of the Arab world, and the lesson should be clear: when looking at their misery, the Arabs should stop blaming the Mongols, the Persians, the Ottomans, the French, the British, the Russians, the Israelis or the Americans for their ills.

When feeling in distress over socioeconomic and political issues inside their countries, Arabs should start looking inward and keep in mind an Ancient Greek aphorism: Know Thyself."

    Thanks Molly.

  11. And I am still waiting for that dumb bitch Vza to come lecture everyone about how wife beating/killing in the US is "different" and less of a problem. Have any of the American women on this blog ever spoken out against domestic violence without being forced by one of the Arab bloggers or commentators to do so? Have they ever brought up the subject on their own?

Seems like a lot of women in the US are getting the shit beat out of them and are getting killed and raped, it's a shame that they aren't as "special" as Arab women and can't get the attention of American women.

Molly please spare me your excuses, I think it speaks volumes about you that you would send Iraqi Mojo *another* article that he can use to go off on Arabs about. Good for you two, maybe you can blog together!

You should know by now that there are people willing to write anything about Arabs, including Arabs!

Look there is one thing to point out what we do wrong it is another thing to write about how backwards Iraq is and how Saddam is a product of that backwardness!

Iraq was once the most englightened Arab country, with or without Saddam did the author mention those things?

And I don't think we can stop blaming the West or Israel anytime soon for our problems.

If you take a look at the Israeli news today you will see that Mr. Nobel himself (Peres) is masturbating and dropping his cum over the prospects of a Sunni confrontation with Iran.

Egypt? Sectarian. Jordan? Sectarian. P.A. Authority Thug Mohammad Dahlan? Sectarian. Saudi Arabia? Sectarian!

Why is it that the people getting funded and supported in the region by the US are all sectarian? And why is it wrong for Arabs to point that out??

  14. There is indeed domestic violence in America, but American men do not kill their sisters for having pre-marital sex. American men who commit murder are punished much more severely than Jordanian men who murder their sisters and daughters for "dishonoring" their families.

Yes Mojo, of course it is backwards. But I dont see the difference in killing your sister because you think she is a whore and killing your wife because she thinks a whore. The result is the same whether the brother or husband or boyfriend did the killing. I think it is silly to say that it is more significant because the brother did it. Doesnt change the fact that the women are still getting killed by either brothers, fathers, boyfriends or husbands because they think they have the Right to.

  18. "instead of listening to clerics who teach Arab children to hate Jews."

LOL Mojo. Those kids dont really need to listen to clerics to hate Jews. To them the Jews symbolize the Jewish power that went into creating Israel and displacing the Palestinian people and the Jewish people from the around the world that support and defend all the actions of the Jews in Israel. So all they have to do is turn on the news and see what Israel does on a daily basis to Palestinians to hate Jews, they dont have to wait until they are old enough to pray.

Oh you mean American men do it for stupid reasons and Jordanian men do it for smart reasons?

Do you people know in which places in Jordan these honor killings are happening?

Its in the places where the most ignorant and uneducated people live. Its the ignorant garbage people of Jordan that do these things.

Mojo you keep telling me that in the U.S.A the system is better and great because the killers go to jail for a long time, I dont think OJ Simpson went to jail for enough time so the system is not perfect, if you have alot of money there are loopholes for the rich people so they can avoid the penalties. But one thing I want to point out is that it doesnt matter that the penalties are stiffer in the U.S.A. because it is not a Deterrent principal, the rate for crimes against women are not going down, they are going up.

    ReplyDelete
  24. "Those kids dont really need to listen to clerics to hate Jews."

The cleric can differentiate between Israelis and Jews, no? The cleric can differentiate between good Israelis and bad Israelis, between those who treat Palestinians badly and those who want to help Palestinians. He could quote Ilan Pappe. This kind of teaching that portrays all Jews as "Treacherous, Disloyal, Deceitful, and Belligerent By Nature" leads to serious backwardness among many Arabs, and it's embarrassing to say the least.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Mojo I would say that the percentage of Jews that want to help Palestinians is actually very small as you can see by the last elections where those Israeli animals and criminals voted for two fascist, lunatic criminals to represent Jews to the world.
I dont agree with teaching young children that Jews are bad. But I do agree with teaching the children what the Bad Jews are doing to Palestininans in the past and present.
I dont feel like it is urgent to step in and lecture Arabs about how they should present Jews to the world, I think the most important thing that Jews can do so that people in the Arab world can stop hating them is for the Jewish state to end its criminal apartheid regime and for them to stop killing Palestinian babies like they are killing fleas or ticks.

  26. OJ Simpson did get away with murder. Good point, Saif. The problem in America seems to be that those who have money can often hire good lawyers and get away with murder.

There are many problems with America's legal system for sure, but to call them "American honor killings" is quite misleading. OJ Simpson did not kill his wife to preserve the "honor" of his family. He did it because he was enraged by jealousy.

Other American men kill their wives for insurance and other reasons, but I doubt any of them kill their wives to preserve the "honor" of their families.

In fact, it is a wonder why the violence in not higher in the ME being subject to colonial assault directly and indirectly. 29. I dont know Mojo, I read something in the news a few days ago about a man that killed his wife and kids because the wife was getting a divorce and keeping the kids.

Those are honor killings but you did not get used to reading about those things that way in the news because there are some labels and terms that they only want to apply to darker people that pray different.

  32. Also, I agree that the killing of Nicole is an honor killing. It was reported in the press that OJ killed her because he was humiliated that she was driving Ron Goldmann around in the car OJ just brought her.
OJ felt humiliated and that fool thought the only to cleanse his honor was to kill her so he doesnt have to see her driving around town anymore.
If an Arab man did that they would call it honor killing in the media in the U.S.A.

  38. "Can it be censorship or hypocrisy?"

Our country is at war in the Middle East region, which is why Arabs and Muslims are being placed under the heavily Zionist influenced Western media's microscope, and why only negative stories concerning Middle East people and Muslims are primarily being published...

This biased microscope helps serve a particular political agenda...

This is not to say there are no problems which need to be addressed in the Arab world, as there are many, but they must be addressed by the Arabs/Muslims themselves. Our interference and military presence there only manages to exasperate these kinds of problems and keep them from being honestly addressed by the people themselves...

Our country; which has a tendency to resort to preemptive wars and occupations, to allegedly free people and "bring them" their rights through the barrel of a gun to what are considered as "uncivilized" parts of the world, while our leaders hypocritically support so-called moderate dictatorships of the very countries which have been not only giving Arabs and Muslims a bad name but selling their very basic rights of self determination, self defense, and sovereignty from underneath them; needs to honestly ook in the mirror before it continues to call itself the champion of human rights.

LAS VEGAS - A weary and beaten-looking O.J. Simpson was put away Friday for at least nine years — and perhaps the rest of his life — for an armed robbery in a hotel room, bringing a measure of satisfaction to those who believed the football star got away with murder more than a decade ago.

The 61-year-old Hall of Famer listened stone-faced, his wrists in shackles, as Judge Jackie Glass pronounced the sentence — 33 years behind bars with eligibility for parole after less than a third of that.

Good point. I hope so too. The fact that American men might be slightly bigger jerks than Arab men is no excuse for Arab men to be jerks too.

In the US, perhaps 40% of all marital violence is the woman beating the man. Is husband beating also a big problem in the Arab world?

I guess the only way is if you don't care about Iraq at all and are only concerned with what affects your own little neck of the woods, or agree with the imperial intervention. Either way, that is not a bridge, but a bond in shame.

  44. Let me repeat myself, because it is applicable under this post also -

...the sensitivity in most of this part of the world is produced by vulnerability - that is, they are questionable regimes/kingdoms, etc. They fear the slightest infraction. That is what happens when you have puppet dictatorships, and it is not helped by the support of the West. Or, they are threatened by hostile forces, fabricated insurgencies by the enemy (wonder who that is?). The pressure alone causes this great fear - when if they were left alone, the people would be able to naturally arise to change the course.

  45. The article written by an Iraqi that Molly sent to IM's latrine, is a truly shameful piece of garbage. I mean, trying to justify the occupation of Iraq as simply the result of Iraqi backwardness, which in turn fostered into Saddam's rise to power, it's not just a propaganda contortion, but a quite stupid one too. Didn't Hitler raise to power in what was assuredly the most sophisticated, liberal and cultured nation in Europe at the time? Saddam attained power and remained in it mostly because of the constant support and collaboration between his regime and US imperialism. There is a well established historical record that proves this ad-nauseum. Only someone willing to sell his consciousness and his own people and nation for a few filthy imperial bucks, can deny such blatant facts.

    ---------------------

Yes V. I like the way you put this very much. Imperil intervention, in the last analysis, is to prevent the people themselves to achieve their own liberation, for this could mean they may become excessively confident and challenging. If you "liberate" them, you make sure this "liberation" doesn't turn against you. This is the logic of most "liberating" imperial interventions.

  47. Meanwhile, the bloodletting and destruction of Iraq continues.

*April 10: ten Iraqis killed, 84 more wounded in attacks across the country. Five US soldiers (the single deadliest attack on US soldiers in over a year), two Iraqi soldiers killed in car bomb attack.
*April 9: six Iraqis killed, 19 wounded in attacks across the country. Tens of thousands demonstrate against the occupation in Baghdad on this 6th anniversary of the fall of Baghdad.
*April 8: ten Iraqis killed, 27 wounded. This was the third day in a row of significant bomb attacks in Baghdad. Another sign of the ongoing targeting of Awakening Group members by the Iraqi Government, three Awakening Council members were wounded during a bombing near Garma in Halibaja. (The Awakening Groups are a US-constructed Sunni militia. Each member was paid $300 per month of US taxpayer money until control of them was turned over to the Iraqi government last October. They had grown in strength to 100,000 men and were supposed to be absorbed into the government security apparatus, but are now being targeted by government forces on a regular basis. To date, less than a third have been given government jobs.)
*April 7: 15 Iraqis killed, 27 wounded in attacks across the country. In Fallujah, a suicide bomber rammed his car into a police checkpoint that killed one policeman and wounded nine Iraqis. An Awakening Council member was found dead in the Iskandariya district. The city is put on lockdown for two days following the attack.
*April 6: 45 Iraqis killed, 176 wounded and one US soldier killed. Baghdad suffers a devastating series of car bombings.
*April 5: 13 Iraqis killed, 34 wounded. In Baghdad, a senior Interior Ministry official was killed by gunmen while he was riding in his car with his family. Basra’s governor barely survived a bomb attack. An Awakening Council member is killed in Kanaan, and another Awakening Council member is wounded by a bomb in Kirkuk.

Well I dont think that I took any position to be ashamed of dear Moyhabin. I said I do not agree with some of Mojos positions but that I wont judge him because of his hatred for the people blowing up the Shiites just because they are Shiites.
Personally I hate the American soldiers in Iraq as much as I hate to Al Qaidah fools. I am Palestinian I dont think anyone can expect me ever to clap for occupation.
I never uttered a word about supporting occupation or American wars anywhere.
So I cant see how I got stuck in shame with any one or any thing.
I did read that article that got posted on his blog, I did find it to be the kind of garbage that gets filed into the "I have to please America" stack; I do think we have problems in the Arab world but I dont see how the author of that essay thinks that his insults and biased propaganda will help to "fix" any thing.

What makes you think Saif that such is IM's position? That is mere posturing, a facade, a masquerade, a hypocritical pretext that has no depth of sincerity. Actually, when has IM expressed any outrage by the thousands of innocent Shia civilians killed by US imperialist forces in his country? Never. At the most he will say that those are just painful mistakes, exceptions to the rule, isolated human errors that have no bearing on the overall US imperialist adventure. Isn't it glaringly obvious that the only thing IA cares about is how to justify the invasion and destruction of Iraq by US imperialism? The guy is a traitor, a collaborator, a turn-coat, a renegade, an accomplice to the butchery of his own people, regardless of whether they are Shia, Sunni, Kurds or members of any other Iraqi group. Would you be so civil towards him if he was supportive of those who are butchering the Palestinian people? I think not. So why the difference? Is it because the Iraqi people are less worthy of our solidarity than the Palestinian people?

BTW, I don't hate US soldiers, but those individuals who have designed and implemented imperial policies of aggession within the upper circles of power in Washington, the CIA, the Pentagon and other conspicuous and nefarious characters. US soldiers are mere tools in the hands of those who are the ideological artifices of the ongoing massacre in Iraq.

Peres: Clash between Iran, Sunni Arabs is inevitable
    http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1078213.html

This is no suprise for me, if you pay attention to all that those Israelis have been doing for many years is to exploit that divide and make it bigger.
Those Israelis are criminals just like those Arab dictators in the region.
You get some Americans that are "outraged" because some Arabs dictators were mad about what happened with Bashir and they cant imagine how any Arab dictator can feel anger about Bashir.
Meanwhile those same people always forget to mention that Jordan, KSA, Egypt, PA, Hariri friends in Lebanon are ALL in bed with the Israelis. But those Americans who wonder about Arab support for Bashir can not wonder about Israeli support for KSA,,, Egypt,,, PA,, Hariri for them it is Ok to get in bed with filth if it suits Israeli needs and agenda in the region.
Ever since I got to this country one Big Thing that I always noticed was all the great things that Americans have to say about Shimon Peres even while they dont know a single thing about him.
They think he is like Ghandi. Big Peacemaker. But he is a criminal with the blood of children dripping from his fangs. And in his old age did he repent or grow wiser? No of course not look what he is using with his "nobel prize honor" he is going around inciting more hatred and more fighting between the Sunnis and Shiites.
You said it accurately with some of your obscenities: "If you take a look at the Israeli news today you will see that Mr. Nobel himself (Peres) is masturbating and dropping his cum over the prospects of a Sunni confrontation with Iran."
Yes, thats Mr. Nobel in a nutshell!

Iraq Sunni anti-Qaeda leader eyes Shi'ite alliance
    Sun Apr 12, 2009 3:39pm BST

    By Mohammed Abbas

RAMADI, Iraq (Reuters) - A senior leader in a Sunni Arab movement founded to combat al Qaeda in Iraq is edging away from the military activity of the past, toward a once unthinkable alliance with the country's Shi'ite prime minister.

Sheikh Ahmed Abu Risha is head of the Awakening Conference, a political party born out of an armed movement that uprooted al Qaeda and other militants from Anbar province in western Iraq, once the deadliest place for U.S. forces in Iraq.

Abu Risha's renunciation of armed struggle and steps toward working with Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki could be a landmark in new political cooperation between Iraq's majority Shi'ites and minority Sunnis after years of bloodshed."

  53. Excellent point Moy, this is what the conflict with IM has been from the beginning. It does not matter to him that a million plus Iraqis were killed by American/Zionist interests, that is acceptable. He will even go so far as to say that the "majority" of Iraqis were not killed by "shock and awe, sanctions" etc., but by these intermittent attacks by the "omnipresent" AQ.

There have been conversations with IM where he said he sides with Israel, and how they are accomplishing their goals (against the Palestinians) - and how this should be replicated in Iraq if it works. That he has more in common with Zionists than Arabs, etc. There is not one slimy piece of verbal shit this traitor has not written.

  58. Read the poor guy's post above V. He's trying to come up with the ludicrous notion that US imperialism stands truly for democracy in Iraq, and ergo, those who support the ongoing charade are by extension pro-democracy too. It doesn't take much really to discern this traitor's true motivations. The sole idea that democracy can be impossed by the brute force of arms, is one of the most undemocratic notions I have ever heard. It's one of those Orwellian oxymorons that servile lackeys like IM love to hurl at critics of US imperialism, as if such lunacy could mask the true nature of the invasion.

Look I am not defending all of his positions, did I do that Moyhabin? All that I am saying is that I can understand his anger towards the Al Qaidah people that are killing Iraqis.
I think I have condemned the Americans for what they have done to Iraqis probably many more times than all the people on this blog together but even after the fact that I place 100 percent blame for Everything in Iraq you still expect me to say that I dont care about Al Qaidah is doing?
Of course I cant do that because those Arabs are killing more Arabs even as they all the devastation that the Americans and Israelis are creating to kill Arabs.
Although I did not vote Hamas, I still support them 100 percent as the legitimate, democratic choice under occupation of the Palestinian people. I hate Fath party alot, I get disgusted each time that I see Abbas face on the television or when I read his stupid statements in the press, I am upset with my brothers and sisters in the West Bank for making some truly big Ignorant Choices in backing criminals who are selling our land to the Zionists for Nothing but still i dont have a desire to see Al Qaidah go to Ramalla and try to liberate it.
By the way Moyhabin I saw your comment that you dont hate U.S. soldiers... I understand what the political motivations are when people say that and I know they are "poor fools" that should be pitied... But as I am sure you are aware no matter how "nice" parents think they raised there children it is amazing how a 20 year old person with a gun and some power can evoke Real Hatred when they are occupying another people: whether in Iraq or Palestine, so you can understand my Hatred for all those armed thugs that are occupying Arab land.

ARBIL, Iraq (AFP) — Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas on Monday met Kurdish regional government leader Massud Barzani in a visit aimed at cementing ties between the two largest stateless peoples in the Middle East.

"We did not need any invitation to visit this brotherly nation and we have felt for a long time that the doors were always open to us without even needing to make an appointment," Abbas said at a joint news conference.

"The honourable president Barzani was not even told of our visit until 24 hours beforehand and he said 'Ahlan wa Sahlan,'" Abbas said, using the common Arabic form of greeting.

Barzani for his part praised Abbas for being the first "president" to visit the autonomous region in northern Iraq.'

  66. Yes I saw that Mojo, what is the point?
You cant think that any Palestinian with self respect thinks that the fool Abbas can do any thing that is interesting or relevant.
Did you know he visited Talabani right after he called Netanyahu to wish him a Happy Passover, that phone call occurred right after Netanyahu gave some speech where he said "NO NO PALESTINE" so Abbas is a dog and just because he visited Talabani and you might think Talabani is impressive but I dont.
I hope Abbas takes a walk through an Iraqi vegetable market before he goes back to Palestine.

O please, don't be so naive Saif. What anger are you talking about? IM loves Al-Qaida because those criminal thugs, by comparison, render some legitimacy to his own despicable treason. If there wasn't such goons acting in Iraq and all Iraqis were united in an anti-mperialist front, regardless of religious or ethnic allegiances, guys like the lackey would be easily detected for what they are: miserable traitors. IM is a Quisling, a renegade, a back-stabber, someone who loves to shine imperial boots with his own tongue so as to justify the filthy bucks that he receives in exchange for his "services", and also he loves beink cajoled by regular White folks. It makes him feel integrated, part of the crowd, an average member of the mainstream, when in fact they probably laugh at his expense and feel the deepest scorn towards him. No one loves traitors. Not even those who profit from their collaboration.

  138. Just as a point of definition, in the USA there is no essential difference between a liberal and a conservative. It is a big game the ruling elite play - just like in Israel there are "conservatives and liberals." Conservatives and liberals in fact, is the big joke in Washington -

TWISTED TERMINOLOGYEven though the subject matter speaks of libertarianism it goes back to the concepts of liberal conservative in the discussion.

    ReplyDelete
  139. American Conservatives and Liberals alike would agree that there are significant differences betwen their philosphies and favored policies. 141. The major point has been and always will be to keep the system in tact, where the few make the decisions and rule. Where the few become wealthy beyond their imagination while the rest are eventually disenfranchised.

A further example of this stupidity when it comes to left/right and liberal/conservative is the current financial crisis. You have McCain of the "right," and Obama of the "left" both racing back to Washington to bail out the few elites. Where it is eventually built up into trillions of dollars of unaccountable give-away, both cheered on by "left" and "right" of those in power. The common denominator is the fetid system, and the point is serving the few.

    ReplyDelete
  142. The same can be said for supporting the centerpiece of foreign policy, Israel in the ME. It does not matter whether you are right or left, some 90% plus support Israel. Why? Because this is how they see their dominance continuing in a strategic and wealthy resource area. Plus, they do not want to get bludgeoned to death by the lobby.

They have cemented their future with what they are very familiar, colonialism and genocide. Hundreds of years before this course of genocide of the indigenous population was a matter of course. They see the same thing with Israel, in fact, a tear forms in their eye as they mow down the indigenous "savages," just like other Western nations -

The logic of both Israel and apartheid-era South Africa can be found in their common origins as settler states. In both cases, the settlers CREATED MYTHS, semi-religious or explicitly religious, including that GOD HAD PROVIDED THE LAND for them and that the land was unoccupied upon arrival, a very, very common theme in every settler state, whether it's the United States, Israel, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, etc. In both cases, the settlers portrayed themselves to be VICTIMS against natives who were described as SEMI-BARBARIC OR INTOLERANT. Given the permanent state of siege, every settler state AGGRESSION came to be DESCRIBED as a DEFENSIVE ACT, an approach also common with the United States. By way of example, for South Africa, incursions into Angola, Mozambique, Zimbabwe or anywhere else always against alleged TERRORISTS were justified as alleged defensive actions.

And, the same idiots eat it up - they all congregate at IM's site, and occasionally come here to get their asses verbally and factually kicked.

  144. In the case of what the United States has done in Iraq, lets go back far enough so we can think about it. You essentially have two excuses for colonial invasion, one is the Teddy "rough rider" Roosevelt reason and the other is the Wilsonian reason (Woodrow Wilson). One is right wing and the other is left wing.

The Bush administration used both, flipping them like pancakes. It was first the evil enemy (Teddy) scenario, and everything was going to happen including a mushroom cloud. Than, after he bloodbath started and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis were perishing, it was the USA the great "liberator (Wilson)." Mind you, each of these have been used for colonial activity since its inception in the West. The domestic form was the great against "savages" campaign, the invasion into Cuba and the Philippines was the great "liberator" campaign. Isabella wanted to stop the hordes, France wanted to liberate the Egyptians.

However, Iraq is supposed to be "different," or so in the minds of stupid short sighted, uneducated individuals. This, even though there is a looong history of none of this coming to either liberation or destroying an ultimate enemy that did not exist (at least in the way the enemy was played up). But you know, Iraq is going to be different - even though there was more killed in this Iraq invasion than the rest of the invasions combined! Because the US "cares" for the Iraqis, and so on and so forth. Absolutely and stupendously ridiculous!

    ReplyDelete
  145. Nobody in the United States is denying or covering up the domestic violence statistics. Nobody in their right mind is saying we do not have a big problem. There are thousands of people who are working to help victims of domestic violence. There are advocacy groups all over the country, in every city. There are shelters for victims of domestic violence all over this nation and there are good people who study the problem and offer strategies for dealing with it. There are also thousands of volunteers who give of their time and money to help victims of violence.
I do not know what you are reading, but I read plenty of articles and studies about domestic violence in our popular and academic papers and journals, and there are numerous workshops in how to deal with domestic violence. I have personally read articles about America's violent side in newspapers in London, Edinburgh, Paris, Rome, and Madrid...and I am sure there have been many more in other newspapers around the world. It is not as though the issues have not been delved into with great thoroughness.
Where did you get all of your statistics, btw? U.S. sources. Who gathered the data? Americans. It is not as though we are lacking in information or reluctant to deal with it. It is all there for the world to see and of course, for you to enjoy posting. I do hope you got the satisfaction you were seeking. My response? Go for it! I am sure the Bureau of Statistics can provide you with plenty of fodder.

Honor killings are a different kind of domestic violence because they are usually committed with the complicit involvement and approval of other family members and the community. Often the decision to kill a daughter or sister or aunt and even a mother is made by the family and they discuss who would be best to do the deed. Neighbors in a small village or community often know about it and APPROVE of it! As far as statistics...well the numbers are very unreliable since many deaths are passed off as suicides and many are never even reported. The person just simply disappears. The whole community knows about it and says nothing. I suspect the actual number of victims of honor killings would be staggering if all were known.

We have every right to discuss and write about honor killings. They are happening here, too.

  148. The war is not meant to be won, it is meant to be continuous. Hierarchical society is only possible on the basis of poverty and ignorance. This new version is the past and no different past can ever have existed. In principle the war effort is always planned to keep society on the brink of starvation. The war is waged by the ruling group against its own subjects and its object is not the victory over either Eurasia or East Asia, but to keep the very structure of society intact.

Saif, I see any killing as a part of a big problem. I just do not agree with you that there is this big focus on honor killings instead of all of the domestic violence. It is just not true.
As for honor killings occuring every five or ten years, well, that is not true either. Hasn't been true for awhile.

  151. Yes Saif, don't you know that when an Arab man kills a woman it is a primitive religious ritual that can be remedied if the United States installs proper leadership?...and if that doesn't work, we can selflessly send in a few hundred thousands troops to help out-and as long as they are there, they can help the women decide what to wear. On the other hand, when a man in the United States kills a woman it is part of a complicated social problem that is an unfortunate byproduct of our advanced society.

It's just like when an Arab kills an American it is an act of terrorism that reflect the low regard human life is held in the Islamic religion. On the other hand, when an American kills an Arab, actually usually a few hundred Arabs, it is only because the Arabs forced him to take a necessary military action, such as a surgical air strike, and sometimes there unfortunately collateral damage?

Good point, here is a short list, so let it sink in -

Our leaders say they are dedicated to democracy, they vainly spew it from their mouths on a regular basis, but it is a lie. The US national security state has been the key force of (the last 50 years for example) overthrowing reformist democratic governments in Guatemala, Guiana, Dominican Republic, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Syria, Indonesia, Greece, Argentina, Haiti, Bolivia, and that does not even scratch the surface of all the places violated! These democratic governments have been replaced with pro-capitalist military regimes, that open up their resources, markets and cheap labor (unorganized and underpaid, intimidated by death squads), and have been forced open to US corporate investors on terms that are totally agreeable to them!

The US government has been involved in covert actions, in proxy mercenary wars (run by proteges of the School Of The America's in some instances) - training, equipping, paying, advising, via the Pentagon, the CIA, and the US National Security State against popular revolutionary governments in Cuba, Angola, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Portugal, South Yemen, Nicaragua, Cambodia, East Timor, Western Sahara, Egypt, Lebanon, Peru, Iran, Zaire, Figi Islands, Afghanistan ( which is another woefully lacking list). Us forces with direct aggression and invasion have attacked in recent years Viet Nam, the Dominican Republic, North Korea, Cambodia, Yugoslavia, Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, Libya, Iraq, Somalia, with invasion or aerial assault - once again a short list. Millions of people killed by both direct and indirect aggressive actions!

All through the Middle East, popular movements, workers movements, unions, student movements, farmer collectives - all of them destroyed and shattered by US aggression in Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Palestine, Egypt, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon. In Saudi Arabia that filthy rich, corrupt family would not be able to survive if they did not have US support.

Twenty one countries in Africa have had enormous amounts of US arms, and bribes, to put in the most oppressive, retrograde, and corrupt rulers in to destroy every popular and democratic movement. Those in Africa are perfectly capable (contrary to racist propaganda, taught in US schools and spread by corporate media) of democracy, viable production, and have the ability to organize their own markets and labor - they are not allowed to do it!! Because of the destruction of the economic infrastructure, the impoverishment of the people, and the destruction of their future - they have killed the future of these nations. Drowning them in debt, tying their viability to foreign capital, and spiriting the wealth away from the people.

Anyone who dares to question these atrocious actions is called a rogue state. There is no rogue state, no terrorist movement, no communist threat, that has this kind of record! This record of murder, destruction and violation of international law solely belongs to the US leadership. This is a matter of public record, it's just that it does not get voiced in the corrupt media in the US, or it is portrayed as something entirely different than what is taking place.

Former president George W. Bush and some of his White House aides are gathering in Dallas this week to plan the future George W. Bush Policy Institute. There, I guess, they will ponder grand themes and marble foyers, but I propose they begin by simply renaming the place. I suggest naming it the "George W. Bush Institute of Management Failure" and dedicating it to studying how this presidency went so wrong -- a task as big as Texas itself. LOL!

  170. The news is filled with the rescue of an American ship captain and the murder of three Somali pirates who were allegedly threatening him (but hadn't actually harmed anyone at that point). The murder of 8-year-old Sandra Cantu, allegedly at the hand of the mother of a friend, is also receiving wall-to-wall coverage. Meanwhile, quite a number of perfectly innocent people were killed whose deaths will receive less than one percent of the attention of either story, even though the murderer was our own government, using our tax dollars.

You can applaud now, flaming. Put down your burning cross first.

  171. Poor Anon, he's about to burst a blood vessel, so furious is he at the "white devils", "gringos", "crackers"... LOL

Me, white trash? Yo Mama, bitch! HAHA

Methinks Anon watches too much Jerry Springer. Still, he wouldnt know white trash if it lived next door to his trailer!!!!

  172. Being a pirate is a dangerous "profession". That's why it pays so well. LOL

Oh, I see, the navy should have waited till AFTER the Captain was dead before they took action? Right....

Here is the takeaway: Dont be a pirate. You will live a lot longer. DUhhhh!

    PS: You are a moron.

    ReplyDelete
  173. Here is a message for you fleming, all history about piracy (for the most part) is skewed, but is the line of the status quo. We can't expect you to depart from the status quo fleming, you brain would burst

    ReplyDelete
  174. v,
    the dude has a brain?

    ReplyDelete
  175. yep, even smaller than his balls though

    ReplyDelete
  176. So tell us V: what exactly do we not understand about the "pirates"?
    - Are they not hijacking random ships who are merely passing thru international waters?
    - Are the sailors aboard not innocently just doing their jobs?
    - Are the "pirates" not holding the sailors against their will for ransom?
    - Are the pirates not unlawfully taking hold of cargo that they do not own?
    - What exactly do you find noble and admirable about kidnapping?
    - How would you feel if your family member was being held against their will in Somalia for some huge ransom you had no ability to pay, and they had never done anything agaist Somalia?
    - Do you really expect the world will continue to tolerate Somalia pirates hijacking their vessels and then being forced to send them millions in ransom with which they can better arm themselves to hijack more and bigger ships?
    - Do you think the world is going to remain cowed by raggedy dudes in motor boats with AKs and RPGs?
    - What is about kidnapping and hijacking you find so noble and honorable?

  177. Hey there, chattering Anonymousesseeesss hahahahah

My balls and brains are both large enough, to be sure. But its true one is smaller than the other. Im not telling which, though! LOL

Hey, whenever you get the nerve to actually give yourself a name and stop talking to yourself, do let us all know. In the meantime, you might want to see somebody about that incoherent blabbering you do here.

PS: It can be arranged so that nice people from the US govt cam provide such counseling services to you "free of charge." All we need are a name and an address. :)

  178. fleming is proof that evolution CAN go in reverse. LOL!

  179. Anon/wingnutia is either Abe, Marcatu or some deformed devil spawn of the two. Lets all just hope it never breeds... LOL

I wont be clicking on your links. Who knows what nasty virus you'd like to impart.

The tea parties being held around the country are just americans engaging in freedom of speech and voicing their displeasure with govt policies. You do supporrt freedom of speech and the ability to protest, right?

Oh, that's right, how silly of me. Only when the protests are in alignment with YOUR views. Otherwise they shouldnt be allowed, or are just ignorant people behaving ignorantly.

I almost forgot you were one of THOSE kind of liberals. You know, love tolerance except when the views being expressed are ones you dont support. Then intolerance is your mother's milk.

Your kind is despised by so much of this country. Ive got that to be thankful for.

  180. This "anon" character is really a most feckless individual. He loves to attack and critique western/US culture and society as if HIS values are superior. As if he sits on high while the rest of us wallow in filth and slime. As if there is someone or somebody controlling it, as if there is a master switch one could push or pull to change it. If only we could turn the world on its head, huh anon, so that the beautiful are ugly and the ugly beautiful, or so that the fat are admired and the healthy scorned! :)

anon, such comments are inane and banal. They are not incisive, and do not not reveal you as someone full of biting wit and sarcasm. You have not uncovered great truths of which we are all too scared to face. You do not give us pause, or cause anyone to question anything of any consequence. You come across as a nasty, angry little person whose own life is rather meaningless and dull, and so chooses to put the blame on society instead of himself.

Besides, the only place I know you can regularly find women in the USA in tight clothes and high heels is cocktail bars and strip joints. Other than that women just dont go round like that - unless perhaps they have a "killer bod", want some male attention and then its THEIR CHOICE. Their choice. Last time I checked, only the far religious right types wanted to impose their so-called moral authority on the rest of us? Have you been "saved" recently anon??? :) :)

anon, you are such a feckless little twit. You have had beers wtih 5 ex-soldiers and now believe you have enough information to demand the complete overhaul of the american military and its teaching methods. Even though you have never served, even though you havent taken a statistical valid sample, and even though you dont know anything at all about the US Military. You know better than all the men and women who have led our military over hundreds of years to make it the strongest and most capable in the world. Yea, right.

  181. Oh! Is your name "felching" now? That is a vast improvement. Your other incarnation had an IQ of room temperature.

Coming to think of it, your present incarnation is not the sharpest knife in the drawer, either.

Keep trying. You'll get your high school diploma yet!
    :)

    ReplyDelete
  182. Poor sad little Joe. Still hurt over that beating I gave you, huhn?

Gee Joe, low IQ "jokes" and high school diploma "zingers". Have you been taking night courses on comedy at the local JC? LOL

  183. fleming:

I sign all my comments. Apparently, someone else is also not enamored with your behavior on this blog.

    ReplyDelete
  184. Anon has "gay" issues. He keeps trying to "get my goat" by calling me "flaming" or now "felching".

Poor little anon. He must be confused with regards his own sexual identity. Awwwww, its OK, we dont behead alternative lifestylers here in the USA. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  185. 'flaming' (the last time I checked) has to do with burning - as in "your candle at both ends". The only one who manages to read sex into that word is the bigot fleming himself. You really dig your own trap and then fall into it, don't you? By the way, I assume you got your tea bagged today.

    ReplyDelete
  186. Lame, lame lame Anon - really pathetic response.

But please do explain the name "felching" :)
