In a speech at the Sydney Opera House to mark his award of Australia's human rights prize, the Sydney Peace Prize, John Pilger describes the "unique features" of a political silence in Australia: how it affects the national life of his homeland and the way Australians see the world and are manipulated by great power "which speaks through an invisible government of propaganda that subdues and limits our political imagination and ensures we are always at war - against our own first people and those seeking refuge, or in someone else's country".

Incredible speech TGIA, I wish we could own Pilger here, and am jealous. The only thing I fear is the passing of a generation like this, than what is left to us...so inadequate
ReplyDelete<span>We could lend him for a couple of weeks. The problem is he lives in London..
ReplyDeleteSeriously, he's a great guy..I listened to him a couple of times and he's got what it takes. He fully deserves his prize and no dramas this time..As it happened when Hanan Ashrawi was awarded the same prize 4 years ago the mayor of Sydney who's got very strong ties with the Jewish/Israel lobby here refused to hand her the prize. The pretext? She "backs terror"!!

Oh yes, Pilger is a great supporter of the Iraqi resistance, too.
