Israel wants answers from Solomon Islands over UN vote

An imaginary dialogue:
Israel: What the hell is going on with you?
Solomon Islands: What happened to my check?
Israel : The US is saying it's in the mail!
Solomon Islands: Ah! Well, it's a bit late now, init?
Iran: Hi Sol! Everything is ok?

  1. HAHAHA...wow, Israel must really be getting desperate. They can't even control tiny little Solomon Islands anymore. Hmmm. I wonder when we'll suddenly see evidence that the poor Solomon Islands has WMD and must be invaded immediately!

  2. Yes DO,  we will have a repeat of the Reagan era,  where small islands are pummeled because they are part of the red menace.

  3. V, did you support the Cuban invasion and occupation of Greneda in 1983?

The Cuban commandos only fought with the US military once . . . in Greneda in 1983. The Cubans army fought poorly.

<span>Falsifying history anan? Shame on you!!
    From Wikipedia:
The Invasion of Grenada, codenamed Operation Urgent Fury, was a 1983 US-led invasion of Grenada, a Caribbean island nation of just over 100,000 population located 100 miles (160 km) north of Venezuela, triggered by a military coup which ousted a brief revolutionary government. The successful invasion led to a change of government but was controversial due to charges of American imperialism, Cold War politics, the involvement of Cuba, the unstable state of the Grenadian government, and Grenada's status as a Commonwealth realm.</span>

"<span><span><span><span>President Reagan and his administration were concerned that the Marxist government of Prime Minister Maurice Bishop was allowing Cuba to gain undue influence in Grenada, specifically by constructing a military-grade airport with Cuban military engineers"</span></span></span></span> </span>

  7. TGIA, the airport was being built by the Cuban military. When US troops landed the vast majority of the fighting was between the Cuban Army and the US military. It is historic because it is the first and only major battle between the Cuban Army and the US military.

The real reason Reagan ordered the invasion is because he was told by a woman CIA agent that the American students at the Grenada medical university were in danger.  Reagan had sent a woman CIA agent under the guise of a state department diplomat to interview the students and assess their security situation. She reported that there was a high likelihood that the students would be taken hostage. This is what sparked the actual operation.

Since they were going in anyway, they thought they might as well take out the Cuban airbase which was co located with a Cuban military base.

BTW, V, do you have any evidence that the invasion of Grenada was unpopular among the locals? Did you support the Cuban military airbase in Greneda?

How about the Cuban invasions and occupations of Angola and Ethiopia. These were deeply tragic wars. So many Cubans died in them.

  8. Maggie Thatcher was furious about the invasion of Greneda, a Commonwealth member. She communicated extensively using her redline with Washington.

The Soviets mistook this for a possible coordinated NATO attack on the USSR. As a result they moved their nuclear arsenal and military to top alert.

The other times this happened during the cold war were:
    1) Cuban Missile Crisis
    2) 1971 Bangladesh War
    3) 1973 Yon Kippur War
    4) 1983 Greneda

Thank God the Soviets figured out it was just the invasion of Greneda, which the Soviets didn't care snott about.

    Bringing down Apartheid was tragic?

  11. Cuba fought and won against the racist South African regime and the US in Angola.

Nelson Mandela: "Long live the Cuban Revolution. Long live comrade Fidel Castro... Cuban internationalists have done so much for African independence, freedom, and justice. We admire the sacrifices of the Cuban people in maintaining their independence and sovereignty in the face of a vicious imperialist campaign designed to destroy the advances of the Cuban revolution. We too want to control our destiny... There can be no surrender. It is a case of freedom or death. The Cuban revolution has been a source of inspiration to all freedom-loving people."

Nelson Mandela, the hero of Africa and the hero of majority rule over the racist White South African minority, refused to welcome George Bush when he visited South Africa.

  12. r.s. I think Cuba did alright in Angola. They were fighting thugs backed by South Africa. The fact that Kissinger had a man crush on the Angolans Cuba was fighting against makes me sympathetic to Cuba and its Angolan allies in the great Angola war.

I wonder, where did all of you come down on the Ethiopian, Somalian, Eritrean war of the 1970s? Many countries were involved in that war. Cuba sent a large number of troops. Many years ago I looked up with a friend how much equipment various countries donated to the participants.

    The World gave a boatload of money and cutting edge fighter aircraft, tanks, APCs, Artillery, armored fighting vehicles, to the combatants. {China supported the side fighting Cuba and the USSR.}

If only the world would give the Afghan National Army the kind of equipment it gave the Ethiopians and Somalians in the 1970s, the ANA and its air force could smash the Taliban and its Takfiri wacko allies.

I think that even if we Americans wimp out (what is it with my fellow yanks and wimping out?), I think the Russians, Indians, Iranians, Turks, Chinese and others would step up and provide the ANSF a lot of weapons to defeat the Taliban.

Nelson Mandela is a hero. He also praised George Bush. Remember that Dubya increased foreign aid to Africa from less than $500 million a year to $10,000 million a year.

Go Bush 8-) 8-) 8-)   Bush was popular in Africa because he was the first US president to step up for Africa. I also praise Bush's pastor for telling Bush about Africa (not sure Dubya knew much about it before his pastor talked to him about Africa), and telling Bush junior to give Africa money.

Bush also to my great delight stood up against the pro sanctions racist nativist protectionist crowd (you know the Amy Goodman, Pat Buchanan, Gore Vidal, Anne Coulter, Lou Dobbs, Bill O'Reilly, Michael Moore, Jesse Jackson, John Edwards, Tariq Ali, Arundhati Roy groupies.) Bush fought hard to allow imports from Latin America, Africa and Asia into the US. Bush stood up for the poor people, making me proud of my President! Bush fought to allow free investment with developing countries (I like to call them re emerging great powers)

Too bad Bush ruined so much of his potential by choosing an idiotic moron like Cheney. Bush let Cheney get him involved in an ongoing Iraqi civil war that neither of them understood (it had been going on since at least 1980.) If only Bush were smarter.  :(  Bush also let Saudi Arabia and Musharaff lead him around on a leash like their poodle :'( :'( :'(

    How horrible. Euhhh >:o >:o >:o

  13. What part of what I write is propaganda. Seriously TGIA, I have read many books on all of this.

The Cuban revolution wasn't all bad. It had good aspects too. For example Cubans have a lot more freedom than many global dictatorships, or than Saudis, Egyptians, Libyans, Syrians or Jordanians have. Not nearly as much as Iraqis or Lebanese, Turks or Palestinians have however.

Part of the issue might be that I don't understand what you mean by occupation?

for example are all UN peace keeping missions by definition UN occupation forces?

  18. TGIA, Bush did some things I really like. Bush made a speech defending outsourcing in 2004, risking his reelection. That speech warmed the hearts of billions. Bush increased aid to Africa by 20 fold! Bush also improved US China and US India relations to their best level ever. You can't seriously expect me to not give him credit for these achievements. If not for his Dick Vice President, he coulda been a contenda.
