IDF Chief Rabbi: Troops who show mercy to enemy will be 'damned'

The Israel Defense Forces' chief rabbi told students in a pre-army yeshiva program last week that soldiers who "show mercy" toward the enemy in wartime will be "damned."
Speaking Thursday at the Hesder yeshiva in the West Bank settlement of Karnei Shomron , Rontzki referred to Maimonides' discourse on the laws of war. That text quotes a passage from the Book of Jeremiah stating: "Cursed be he that doeth the work of the Lord with a slack hand, and cursed be he that keepeth back his sword from blood."
Haaretz

"doeth the work of the Lord" !?
Oh! How I love this one!

1. See Mojo's place. I visited an Israeli blog for the first time. They are very different from American Jews! Hadn't understood their attitude before. They don't like either Palestinians or Ultras (I think this means settlers.) It was shocking that they didn't like Palestinians so much!

Their idea of a solution is to transfer large parts of Israel proper where Israeli citizen Palestinians live to Palestine. Then build a large wall separating Israel from Palestine.

They want to leave the settlers on the other side of the wall, and let the settlers and the Palestinians fight it out. They want the Palestinians to kill the settlers for them! Their biggest fear is if the settlers kill the Palestinians instead. Then they will have to deal with the settlers (their nightmare.)

The biggest thing that scares them about a peace treaty with Palestine is that the ultras (settlers) would move to Israel! It scares the bejeezus out of them.

They have all sorts of negative stereotypes about Arabs and Palestinians too. They don't think Arabs and Palestinians contribute much to science, technology, the private sector, etc. Really shocking! They asked me how many Arab Nobel Prize winners there are. {They claimed 20% are Jewish. Is it that high?}

TGIA, do you have a good summary article about the great recent contributions of Palestinians and Arabs? {I tried telling them about ancient scientists and scholars, but they specified they wanted to know about recent contributions.}

Some of them said, we are not like the liberal laid back Californian Jews you know. We are much more rude. They have a point.

2. Gee, how shocking. If you had been listening to us, it wouldn't have been so shocking...

3. Touche. Truth be told I was turned off by the extent of anti Israeli sentiment (versus pro Palestinian sentiment which I applaud.) Now I have a better appreciation of why Palestinians view Israelis the way they do. Some Israelis really see the Palestinians as barbarians. And these are ones that want to end the settlements, get out of the west bank, transfer Arab parts of Israel proper to Palestine, build a wall, etc. These are the ones who are willing to pay off the Palestinians to live in peace . . . far away from them.

You can see that I tried to be very nice to them and explain why a one state solution would benefit Israel. They weren't impressed.

To anyone here, is there a summary of all the recent accomplishments of Palestinians and Arabs in:
-Academia
-Science
-Technology
-Arts
-Dance/song/plays/movies
-Medicine/biotech
-entrepreneurship and corporate executives
-all other endeavors of excellence?

Something that can be shown to Israelis?

4. Well, there's this, Anand. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Palestinian_people_by_occupationBut the problem is that Israelis must demonize Palestinians in order to justify their landgrab. So their racism won't be very easy to eradicate.

Anan..I'm surprised you can't even have a response to that! Did you ask yourself where those 20% "Jews" come from? The West. Europe, US and such. Is it a surprise that the vast majority of Nobel winners are people who were educated in the West and a small minority in the East , Africa and South America..This whole Jewish Nobel numbers business is about high standards of education not about genetic superiority as those filthy racist supremacist scum Israelis are inferring.

7. A question for you and them anan. Since when having a great number of Nobel winners give theft, land grab , dispossession and the destruction of an entire society, a legitimacy?
Another thing.. The Indonisians, the Zambians and the Guatemaltecs or the Liberians and turkmens and the Bolivians didn't produce a single Nobel winner, does that make them lesser people? Should we kick out the Samoans from their islands because they haven't produced a winner. What about India and China? Are the numbers really all that impressive?
Last thing..I understand you want to get a different perspective by visiting a supremacist Israeli site but please don't bring the filth over here. If you want to a have a perspective on the Israel/Palestine perspective I personally recommend mondoweiss or Jews sans frontieres or Antony Loewenstein. They're all Jews and you can see by yourself how Jews are reacting to the whole business...True they're not right wing fascists..

Why should I do that? What is this going to prove?
BTW, the Palestinians never had a break since the Ottoman occupation "ended" and were kicked out of their homes very early on and most have been living under occupation or in refugee camps..Do you want to blame them for not producing a Nobel prize winner too?

9. Some Israelis really see the Palestinians as barbarians.
-------------------
We already KNOW that anan..Nothing new..So what? I see most Israelis as despicable, racists and supremacists. Brainwashed if not liars, deceptive and crooks.. And those who aren't are just getting along with the ethnic cleansing and the slow genocide of an entire society!! Go and tell them exactly that but don't tell me what they think. I KNOW!!!!

10. Anan only wants to converse with the right wing fascists, he finds greater identity there.

Who's dumping those thugs in there? Ask them why are they condoning the ethnic cleansing by electing people who are in favor of colonising the entire occupied territories? Keep the answer for yourself. We know it already..They like the outcome and do not care how it's achieved as long as the result is an expansion of their shitty state...

12. There are numerous Arab American achievers in all disciplines. Two Nobel Prize winners for Chemistry are Arab Americans. I cannot recall their names but they won in the 90's I think. They most likely would not have achieved what they did had they, or their families remained in the Arab world. Not because the talent is not there, but because of other factors such as a repressive atmosphere that does not encourage individuality.

13. Here is something for dumbass anan to chew on -

"The logic of both Israel and apartheid-era South Africa can be found in their common origins as settler states. In both cases, the settlers CREATED MYTHS, semi-religious or explicitly religious, including that GOD HAD PROVIDED THE LAND for them and that the land was unoccupied upon arrival, a very, very common theme in every settler state, whether it's the United States, Israel, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, etc. In both cases, the settlers portrayed themselves to be VICTIMS against natives who were described as SEMI-BARBARIC OR INTOLERANT. Given the permanent state of siege, every settler state AGGRESSION came to be DESCRIBED as a DEFENSIVE ACT, an approach also common with the United States. By way of example, for South Africa, incursions into Angola, Mozambique, Zimbabwe or anywhere else always against alleged TERRORISTS were justified as alleged defensive actions."

14. This whole business of Nobel winners is really irrelevant. Egypt had 4 Nobel winners versus 2 to Greece! Does that make Grece a lesser country! Greece, of all countries?
Israel's count is at 9. But listen to this: 3 of them are for peace!! Begin(!!) Peres and Rabin! Haha!! Most if not all were born and educated in Europe or the US. A great feat indeed!
In any case here are Some Arab winners:

Mohamed ElBaradei, Peace, 2005Ahmed Zewail, Chemistry, 1999Naguib Mahfouz, Literature, 1988Anwar El Sadat, Peace 1978Yasser Arafat, Peace, 1994

Mahmood Darwish was nominated many times but never won.

16. Anan, they are trying to change the subject. What does Turkish integration in Turkey have to do with Palestine?

17. I meant in Turkish integration in Germany.

21. We had 2 full years on As'ad's blog dealing with those people you're trying to have a dialogue with, anan..We know what they think and how they articulate their position.. For them Arabs or the the "Paleos" as they used to say are a subhuman race. Jews are a superior brand of humanity and they have bigger dicks!! If you haven't been on As'ad's site at that time it's not our fault and we do not have to endure the same insanity over and over again!! THANK YOU..

22. He was born in Egypt but came here for college and became a citizen in 1982. He is an Egyptian- American. We don't mind sharing him with Egypt.

23. Oh there he is at #68 under the United States, too!

So when an American Jew wins the Nobel he's ccounted as Jew (the assertion above: 20% of Jews won the prize) but if an Arab American wins he's counted as an American? Doesn't fit!

ReplyDelete
25. ?????
Robert Aumann is Jewish American and he is listed under Israel and the U.S. just as Ahmed Zewali is listed both as an Egyptian and American.

26. If only that were true, v, we'd be spared his crap.

27. Anan asked us to provide him of a list of Arabs and Palestinians not by country but obviously by ethnicity because the intial assertion of "20% of the winners are Jews" doesn't mention nationality.
