Defend Edward Snowden

Edward Snowden is in very serious trouble; the US is out to get this young man & governments are playing an unsavory roulette with his life. What he did advances the struggle for democracy at a time when democratic rights are on the chopping block. It is a human rights duty to defend him by signing every damn petition that comes across your news feed & by calling the White House & politicians to protest. Tweet your brains out in his defense.

This same thing happened when CIA agent Phillip Agee exposed his former employers in the early 1970s. He was hounded from country to country unable to find asylum. While he was on his odyssey I became friends with the Mexican woman who inspired his transition from spy to whistleblower & learned what a personal horror Agee endured until he found refuge.

The only force that can counter US government pressure & threats to other governments against granting asylum is our active support for his democratic right to find political asylum. Our support can also help sustain the rebellious spirit of young Snowden who is still holed up in that airport lounge in Moscow. They protested in Hong Kong, for God’s sake, in his defense. Do they have to shame us by comparison to join them!?

This protest from June 15 is outside the US consulate in Hong Kong.
