How did it come to this!?

There is a disturbing symmetry between the young woman scavenging in this garbage dump for recyclables to sell & the Greater Adjutant storks scavenging for dead animal carcasses. The storks have lost their natural habitats through the draining of wetlands, pollution, hunting, & are now on the endangered list of threatened species & forced to compete with humans (including children rag pickers) in culling through putrid garbage near a wildlife sanctuary on the outskirts of Guwahati, India. By all reports, Assam, (the northeastern state of India where Guwahati is the largest city) is rich in natural beauty & resources, cultural heritage, & political importance.
