Palestinian soccer team advances to next World Cup round

Haaretz/AP 3 July -- The first World Cup game ever to be played at home in the Palestinian territories took place Sunday, as the Palestinian national team secured its place in the next round after a 1-1 draw against Afghanistan, the BBC reported. For years, Palestinian soccer was disorganized, underfunded and hindered so much by Israeli travel restrictions that games were often forfeited because players couldn't arrive for the kickoff. "When teams come play on our land, it's a way of recognizing the Palestinian state," said player Murad Ismael, 26, to the Associated Press last month. "That benefits the Palestinian cause, not just Palestinian sports."

  4. Yes I have a soft spot for Afghans. The Afghans have suffered greatly for 4 decades. They partly brought it upon themselves by letting their leaders frequently talk crap about Pakistan and the Durand line in the 1970s.

Ever since Pakistanis have done their dardest to destroy to great Afghan nation and not completely without success.  May God save the victims of Pakistani vengeance.

There is only one commentator on this and the Palestinian Pundit blog who seems to favor the Taliban and Takfiri against Pakistani Shiites, Afghan Hazaras, Afghans, the Afghan National Security Forces, Iran, Central Asia, Russia, NATO, and dare I say it . . . India.

    Why?

I think it is because he knows that the Afghan National Army is 42% Pashtun, ethnically balanced, nonsectarian and extremely popular and credible with the Afghan people. No other institution comes even close. And the UK's popularity in Afghanistan? Ha Ha Ha Ha! OKAY some Afghan slang words [Pharsi/Dari ones] come to mind but TGIA wouldn't approve. The Taliban are less popular and legitimate than the British.

So many educated officers in the Afghan National Army speak about British conspiracies to help the Taliban against them. Why? Why has President Karzai spoken about investigating reports about British helicopters feratting about Taliban as the Taliban attack the Afghan people and their beloved Afghan National Army?

For the record, most Afghan conspiracy theories about Britain backing Al Qaeda an the Taliban are bunk. But could it be that many individual Brits sympathize with the Taliban for their own reasons?

To my knowledge there has been only one major infiltration in the Afghan National Army Ministry of Defense headquarters by the Taliban. And that was by a British citizen suicide bomber from Britain. [He killed many Afghans.] This is one of many Taliban from Britain who have mass murdered Afghans. The British Taliban have fauxy accents [which admittedly sound very nice, professional and credible] which often tricks Afghan National Security Forces, Afghan civilians and international forces.
