America's own Taliban

A fast growing right-wing politico-religious presence plans to implement an end-times, Christian theocracy in the US.
2012 presidential hopeful, Texas Governor Rick Perry (left), will be hosting a prayer meeting called 'The Response' on August 6 with many sponsors from the New Apostolic Reformation

Prior to 9/11, the Taliban government in Afghanistan did not register very much on American radar screens, with one notable exception: when it blew up two colossal images of the Buddha in Bamiyan province in early 2001. But destruction of treasured artifacts isn't just limited to the Taliban.

There's a right-wing politico-religious presence centred in the US, but with a global reach, engaging in similar practises, destroying religious and cultural artifacts as a key aspect of its ideology of "strategic level spiritual warfare" (SLSW).

Until recently a fringe evangelical movement, warned against as deviant, "spiritual warfare" is rapidly positioning itself within America's mainstream political right. It's well past time for political journalists to start covering what this movement is up to.

  1. Texans and Rick Perry are not "Taliban." Texas is pro immmigrant, pro high tech, pro business, pro education, pro Mexican and pro minority.

Texas' economy is doing better than almost any other state.

  6. Ever read NY Times editorials? Listen to NPR? Watch network news or CNN? All very liberal. Fox, the WSJ, The Wahington Times, exceptions to the rule.

  7. The US media is left oriented, not right.

Sure!! But to anyone on the extreme far right as you everything is going to look left oriented, doesn't it. Nothing is rightist enough for them.

  8. Yes America is center right. Have you considered becoming center right?

Agree with your point that the American media is left of center. Many liberals are good decent people. I like many of them.

The problem is the hard academic left which represents maybe 5% of Americans.

  9. Knowing that this blog is firmly and unequivocally on the left/far left it puzzles me why you still want to comment here. It's your business, mind you.

  10. I thought that you were pro Palestinian.

Palestine must make friends with the global right and moderates. Leftists represents 10% or less of almost every country.

The hard left has almost never won a free and fair election in any country in the world.

The left is the enemy of Palestine and Israel both. Leftist policies cause suffering and poverty all over the world, including in Palestine.

Why do you think Palestine is poor today? The left. Fayyed has tried to make Palestine rich and free market and he has had some success despite Israel's opposition.

If Palestine dumps the left it can become rich, even if Israel tries to block it.

  11. I thought that you were pro Palestinian.

I'm also pro Palestine not only or exclusively pro Palestinian.

The hard left has almost never won a free and fair election in any country in the world.

You have zero knowledge of history.

Why do you think Palestine is poor today?

Because it's occupied. Palestinians aren't free to move, to cultivate their land and are not allowed to export.

Fayyed has tried to make Palestine rich and free market and he has had some success despite Israel's opposition.

Palestine is under occupation. Why are you so impermeable to facts and reality? Profound stupidity can't be an excuse for everthing.

If Palestine dumps the left it can become rich, even if Israel tries to block it.

You're not getting it. Palestine is occupied territory. Why can't you comprehend this simple fact? Stupidity again.

  12. A question for you anan; do you deny that Palestine is occupied territory and that the Palestinans live under occupation? Do you know what the word occupation means or should we also serve as a dictionary on this blog?

  13. Leftists represents 10% or less of almost every country.

You're grotesque beyond anthing humanly imaginable! I had to read this twice to believe my eyes! 10%! when the left has been routinely coming (on and off) to power since WW2 in many parts of Europe, South America.
Why do I still engage asses like you, I'm seriously wondering..

  14. The left is the enemy of Palestine.

You, on the other hand, are a a friend of Palestine you SOB..!! A friend who denies that they're living under occupation. Occupation, the word you ostensibly refuse to prononouce and will never do.
Why don't I give the mongrel that you are the boot, again, I wonder. But I can feel it coming! Oh, I can feel it.
