Netanyahu rejects US demand to stop settlements in Jerusalem

Ramallah, July 19, 2009, (Ramattan)- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected on Sunday an American demand to stop construction in the occupied East Jerusalem.
"Our sovereignty in Jerusalem is indisputable," Netanyahu said during the weekly cabinet meeting, "We can't agree to such a demand in East Jerusalem."
The U.S. State Department summoned the Ambassador of Israeli in Washington Michael Oren over the weekend, and told him that building housing units in East Jerusalem should be halted, Israel Radio and Army Radio reported.

  1. And the price they pay for this is...? Nothing, of course.

Note that Oren was not told of any consequences that Israel would incur by continuing to build settlements. Of course not.

In better news, Germany has awarded one of its highest honors to Elisabeth Langer, a Jewish lawyer who has aggressively sought to have Israeli leaders tried as war criminals. Really!! Naturally, the usual suspects have gone ballistic.

The article -- from Norman Finkelstein's site -- is amusing in its own right. The paper is clearly pro-Israel and the writer does an impressive job of making this hero into a raving loony anti-Semite while maintaining a veneer of objectivity:

  2. Apologies -- Felicia Langer, not Elisabeth.

As part of my company's cost-cutting measures they've taken away our free coffee, and it shows :-D

  3. Okay, Obama, time to show us what you are made of.  Netanyahu is standing on your foot -- what are you going to do?

  4. I admire Norman Finkelstein.  I remember seeing a Youtube clip of him in an interview during Israel's massacre of Gaza in January.  The interviewer asked him something about "how does this make you feel?".  Finkelstein wasn't buying, it; he refused to answer, saying instead that at least he was able to feel, unlike all the dead Palestinians whose lives were obliterated in the assault.

  7. <span style="font-family: Verdana;">"The Israeli daily Ha'aretz reported that the housing project was developed by American millionaire Irving Moskowitz, an influential supporter of Israeli settlement in East Jerusalem."</span>

Seems that the fine line of "legal" activity has to be drawn here, something with teeth has to be applied - just like the draconian and often erring matter of sending money to terrorist groups. If the Zionists who are citizens of the USA do not like it - thay can just move :)
