Homeless in L.A.
Homeless in Los Angeles, CA: LA city officials launched a 3-week cleanup of the city’s homeless district in the downtown area. Living conditions in the homeless encampments are unsanitary & crowded, including urine, feces, & a rat infestation. City officials were restricted by a federal court injunction issued last year from seizing & dumping the personal property of the homeless. The injunction, however, did not prevent them from providing port o potties or even affordable housing. Here a homeless woman named Patricia watches a worker in protective clothing pressure clean the streets. City officials are likely more shamed by the stench of the feces than the sight of a woman in a wheel chair living on the streets. (Photo by Mark Boster)
