Roll back the fuel increase!
The way photojournalism presented this, a handful of rowdy guys up there in Jammu, India overreacted to a rise in gasoline prices by setting fire to a scooter & chanting angry slogans. In fact, India’s opposition political parties & trade unions held a nation-wide, day-long strike, with protests, roadblocks, & pickets after the state-run oil companies announced the biggest increase in fuel prices in nearly a decade. The oil companies blamed rate subsidies, increases in international oil prices, a troubled rupee. Petrol increases have been a focus of attack around the world--& also a focus of opposition to neoliberal economics. (Photo by AFP)
