Ethiopian-Israelis protest in Jerusalem against racism and discrimination
These men joined thousands of Ethiopian-Israelis protesting today in Jerusalem against racism and discrimination in Israel. There have been a wave of these protests since last week when landlords in an Israeli town pledged not to rent or sell to Ethiopian-Israelis and when their property was vandalized. Placards at the protests displayed symbols & phrases from the US civil rights movement & figures like Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, & Nelson Mandela. The political foundation of Israel is racism so this is a momentous development in the struggle for a democratic & secular state since the most natural allies of the Ethiopians are the Palestinians.
