Christian Zionism: The Root of All Evil?

Tammy Obeidallah
It is common knowledge that many so-called Christians throw unconditional, unyielding support behind the Jewish state. Known as Christian Zionists, or more recently “Israel-firsters”—indicating their degree of loyalty over and above the interests of their own country—it is estimated they are over 50 million strong in the United States alone. By stripping biblical passages out of their proper context and ignoring historical perspective, Christian Zionist leaders have convinced the masses that Jesus Christ will return when all Jews are gathered in Palestine, even if it means the systemic destruction of the Palestinian people.

  2. 50 million? I can't believe that even dumbed-down USA could produce that many fruitcakes.
However many they're all anti-semites according to Gore Vidal. And they're indifferent to the suffering of Palestinian fellow-christians under the zionist jackboot. Not born again? Damned to Hell.

  3. Maybe nobody told them about Palestine. It might be better to inform them about Palestine, rather than accuse them of being evil.

Jemmy, you are accusing Americans of being stupid? What about your own country.

R.S. You are right that some NATO countries suck. After all Britain is in it. So are the large majority of European countries. Many European countries such as France, Turkey, Eastern Europe, Scandanavia, Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, Germany rock. Too bad they share the EU and NATO with Britain.

    What nonsense.

  5. I'm inclined to agree, vza. Any idea of a revised figure?

  7. From what I have read, some of the leaders at various times have claimed to have 50, 70, 100 million followers, but there are really no more than 3 million or so hard core believers.

Look who's preaching ? A Zionist in disguise.

  9. I don't know what "zionist" even means. I am pro Palestinian, pro Turk, pro Iraqi, pro Afghan, pro Sufi, pro Shiite, pro Jewish, pro Christian, pro Sunni. If that makes me some kind of zionist, that so be it.

  10. Agree with VZA. I have yet to meet a Christian fundamentalist who didn't want to help the Palestinians once they were informed about their plight. The key is informing them.

And you inform them to be pro Palestinian. Don't start the process with diatribes against Israel. That shuts them down to the rest of what you say.

I'm tempted to believe you..it explains all the foolish things you say about this issue. You have no understanding of its basics, like the difference between being Jewish, a religion and a being a Zionist, a political ultranationalistic political doctrine...</span>

  15. They should do like the western nations, make big promises then forget to deliver. It's the perception that counts, not the action.
Zardari a Shia? I wonder if anyone's let him know.

TGIA, this is precisely the stuff that Jemmy does that drives me nuts. Of course Zardari is a Shiite. Anyone with the slightest interest in Pakistan has known this for years. This is an important reason why his Shiite wife, Bhutto, was killed. Zardari's Shiite heritage is a major reason why the Taliban and AQ want to kill him.

I think Jemmy really knows a lot more than he lets on. I think he really is an anti Shiite bigot. Note that I don't accuse anyone else on this blog of that.

Jemmy has been making subtle comments on blogs for years that are extremely offensive.

  21. VZA, a better question is why hasn't India sent in the Indian Army and Air Force into Pakistan in a big way to organize relief operations. India could help out enormously. India could also give Pakistan billions of dollars in grants.

  22. The number 50 million is plausable if it is the number of members of demoninations that actively support Israel for religious reasons. That does not mean that every member of every church in these denominations is concerned about the Middle East, but they are more likely to vote the way their religious leaders tell them-until they have a reason to vote otherwisee.

  23. I never heard of a Shia Baloch, where's the evidence, O fantasist?
Zardari, like his late missus, is probably a sceptic who will of necessity pay lip service to religion. In Pakistan that lip service had better be to Sunna.

  24. Zardari and the Bhutto family are Shiites. So was Jinnah.

If the Brit will remember, there were many assasination attempts during the British occupation of India against Jinnah by Takfiri. They tried to kill him because he was Shiite.

The British occupation forces nearly failed to protect Jinnah from these Takfiri crazies.

  25. I am amazed how naive some of the people commenting are..."tell them about Palestine?" To the Christian Zionist, "Palestinian" is the Roman name for "Philistine" and they just see them as another people to be conquered by any means necessary. Maybe you are unfamiliar with the true nature of Zionism in "Christian" America, but in my opinion, 50 million would be a conservative estimate. Wake up, people.

  26. You know, twathooks, there are some Bhutto-haters who claim that Zulfi was a Hindu. You can believe any kind of crap you like. Produce the proof that Zardari is a Shi'ite, then produce the now legendary Haqqani posting.
Jinnah was an agnostic from a Nizari Ismaili family. I can't work out, however, how this piece of information sheds any light on Zardari's religious adherence .

Are you concerned that Christians may behead the atheists?
Nonsense ! Everyone knows that Christians prefer that non-believers be burned at the stake. You seem like nice, if misguided , folks so don't worry : The Christians will kindly bring a bag of gunpowder to hang around your necks.
