Wonderful new counter

You have no idea what this new counter can reveal to you. Have fun and click on 'Visitors online' and you'll discover all the places from which visitors are coming from. Honolulu is not the most unexpected though! Where on earth is Maisuru?
Aussi, nous avons un visiteur/lecteur de Villebon-sur-Yvette en France et nous le/la saluons..Bonjour l'ami/amie.

I was just checking out the counter, and it was kind of cool trying to match up the different people who comment here with the cities. But I did notice that the total number of visitors from cities was 37 and the total visitors from countries was 35. Perhaps it was a minor glitch in the system, I thought. Then I saw what the problem probably was: There were two visitors from the "Palestinian Territories". I know you must find that frustrating, but when I mentioned the "Palestinian" label on the other counter, I wasn't blaming you, I was pointing out how the double standard between Israel and Palestine is so common and so deep, we don't even notice it a lot of the time. Maybe instead of taking this one down, post a caption pointing out this insult to Palestinians on the counter and suggesting that people e mail the company and ask them to change it.

I didn't think you were blaming me. You made a good observation. I changed the counter for a more balanced one with an intention to send feedback to the French company complaining about the bias. I didn't have time to do so yet but I will if it's possible. Otherwise how do you find the new one?

6. This one is fine, and the other one was also. All this stuff is still incredible to me even though the internet has been out for decades. Still, some of it seems 1984ish to me: While you are looking at the internet, the internet is looking at you...

One more point about having a counter: If some mischief maker comes on here, he won't be absolutely annonymous because it will be easy to figure out where he is posting from. It will be a little harder to carry on with that "internet persona" bullshit.

7. I understand what you mean. It adds to the now generally accepted notion that there's no such a thing as privacy on the internet.
I thought a counter would give us a better understanding of who our readers are coming from. Personally I had no idea we had readers in Brazil or Korea.

Don't waste your times trying to email the company ,apart from a form used to restore the password , it seems there is no way to contact them.

11. If you click on the "get widget" icon, it will take you to the company's site. There is a help section you can click on near the top of the page. That opens a form to contact the company.

There seem to be a little confusion , the Counter Widget Tgia had and the one listed Palestinians instead of Palestine is a Geovisite
http://www.geovisite.com/ .It's this site that I tried to Email but was unable. When you say [click on get widget] , I think you're referring to the counter already in place http://www.neoworx.net/blue/gallery/home.php , 2 different companies !
Am I correct ?

14. The one I have up here here right now is from Neoworx and it shows Palestine as Palestinian Territory. The old one called Palestine "Palestinian". That's what is happenning on my end.

Correct, the old one (geovisite) called Palestine "Palestinian" was changed by tgia to the new one by Neoworx.
But it's the old one (geovisite) , that I tried to contact by email and failed , and not the present one.

17. There is nothing secure or private on the Internet. Once connected , every keystroke, every site you visit , every IP etc.. can be traced , in it's infancy the internet wasn't intended for what we use it for now , it started as a communication tool for the US military during the cold war and spread like a wild fire, manufacturers (Cisco) and Regulatory bodies kept on building and band aid patching it ,it's really a miracle that it works at all. As it is the biggest concern is of course security and the near exhaustion of IP addresses , this is why some authorities on the subject often call for rebuilding the Internet from scratch.
