"Hey Jews, let’s stop using our exceptionalist narrative for political cover!"

Philip Weiss
(Thanks to a sharp commenter at Marty Peretz’s blog) I read this post at the Economist, by an anonymous Jewish writer, destroying Robert Bernstein’s op-ed in the Times attacking Human Rights Watch. Sounds like Tony Karon to me. Is it you, Tony?

Yes, how does one extricate the secular nationalist argument from the "Promised Land" claim? The two camps are now locked in a 'need you/hate you' embrace, as hypocritical  as the Christian Right-Rabid Zionist alliance. Still, I suppose the Zionists must scratch around for any ally they can latch onto, no matter how divorced from reality.
Is it the land God gave to Abraham, or the land God gave to Moses? I can never remember who got the freehold. If it was Abraham then the descendants of Ishmael/Isma'il are entitled to their portion, and that means the Arabs.

  2. Nice take on the conflict Jemmy. Didn't think of it that way.
