Turkey, Israel row: US told to butt out

stanbul - Turkey does not need United States' mediation to solve a long-lasting crisis with Israel over a deadly 2010 flotilla raid, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Saturday.

"We do not need mediation ... for Israel in any way," Davutoglu said during a televised press conference in the central province of Konya when asked to comment on the possibility of the US helping to resolve their differences.

"There is no such situation in which mediation is needed. The demands of Turkey are clear" if its former ally Israel wants to improve relations, Davutoglu said.

  1. Increasingly irrelevant.

I was intrigued by the comments on this article. It seems that God is deeply involved in this dispute, but I can't make out which side he/she/it is on.

For the record, I have been calling Turkey an emerging global superpower for many years. Other people laughed.

  5. Buh, for years have been saying that Turkey is a great global superpower and a force for global good.

One of the reasons Jemmy rubbed me the wrong way is that I thought he was anti Turk. Suspected that one of the reasons Jemmy dislikes the Afghan National Army so much [calls them "brigands"] is because of the large role Turkey plays in training, advising, and influencing the doctrine of the Afghan National Army. [For example Afghan National Army officers complete the final part of their training in Turkey . . . Turkey also trains many Afghan National Police in Turkey, plus the largest NCO academy in Afghanistan for the Afghan Army is the Turkish run Ghazi Military Training Center.] Turkey is one of the few countries still surging resources and forces into Afghanistan. Turkey has no exit strategy and will stay in Afghanistan as long as the Afghans want their help against the Taliban and Al Qaeda.

I LOVE Turkey! Turkey rocks! Turkey supports justice in Palestine! Turkey is friends with the very capable and effective PM Maliki of Iraq! Turkey is friends with Azerbaijan! Turkey is friends with India! Turkey is friends with Albania, Kosovo and Bosnia! Turkey helped overthrow Qaddafi! Turkey is the only country considering serious action to help the Syrian resistance achieve justice!

  6. I forgot to add. Turkey is close friends with South Korea and Indonesia. turkey is working with them to develop the KF-X. A 4.75 generation F-16 like aircraft. Turkey is also collaborating closely with South Korea on tanks, tank armor, turboprop light attack aircraft, and all sorts of other advanced military equipment.

Turkey and South Korea are BFF . . .  Best Friends Forever. My hope is that Iraq joins Turkey South Korea and Indonesia.

I think South Korea and Indonesai are mega cool and worthy of admiration and emulation.
