Robert Gates, the now-retired secretary of defense, argued directly to President Obama that Israel is an ungrateful ally, a new report says.
In a meeting of the National Security Council Principals Committee held not long before Gates’ retirement, the former secretary of defense argued that America had taken many steps to guarantee Israel’s security, but had received nothing in return, reports Bloomberg’s Jeffrey Goldberg.
Gates was right.
ReplyDeleteHe says this now that he is retired.
ReplyDeleteExactement! There's a pattern in there.
ReplyDeleteAbove is me. I don't know why I have to log in every time now. I never had to before!
ReplyDeleteGates did not say it when he was retired. The story refers to a meeting Gates had with Obama and other officials and he said it then.
ReplyDeleteMaybe so but did anyone hear of it before now?
ReplyDeleteReminds me of a reply Mitterand gave to a question about class struggle -
ReplyDelete"Class struggle is a reality, but the ruling élite, by an ideological inversion, succeeds in making the dominated classes look like the aggressor."
That was in a private conversation; in public ... nothing.
Off topic: TG, I just read your description of BHL on Mondoweiss - bullseye!
ReplyDelete<span><span>Well Jemmy, with BHL, a dress up is always the right thing to do.

... and a button up, shirt and lip.
ReplyDeleteHaven't I been saying this very thing on CSS, Palestinian Pundit and your blog?
ReplyDeleteI am smart :) :) :) !!!!!
