The high cost of US-NATO "emancipation"

Here an Afghan amputee is at a Red Cross hospital for war victims & the disabled. There are centers like this in 7 Afghan provinces. The caption doesn’t specifically say so, but most likely the man had his legs blown off by one of the 10 million landmines or unexploded ordinance in Afghanistan which are planted in urban areas, residential & commercial areas, agricultural & grazing lands, irrigation canals, & on roads. Landmines were planted by the former USSR when it occupied Afghanistan & continue to be mined by Belgium, Italy, the US & UK. According to the UN, landmines in Afghanistan have killed 200,000 civilians & made 750,000 amputees. A third of the victims are children. An estimated 6,000 civilians will lose their lives or limbs every year in the US-NATO occupation. This is emancipation, US-NATO style. Demand the immediate, unconditional withdrawal of all US-NATO forces.  (Photo by Qais Usyan/AFP)
