1. But US President Barack Obama - who has already sent thousands of extra troops to the country - says strategy in Afghanistan must be agreed before a decision can be made on whether to bolster military forces further.
The most powerful nation on earth has no strategy ??

2. I could e-mail to find more info. Kamdesh district of Nuristan is a Haqqani area I believe. The complex attacks in this area so far have been by the Pakistani Taliban (or Punjabi Taliban), and other foreign fighters (Uzbeks, Chechans, Uighars, Arabs etc.). My suspicion is that this attack is similar. "Local Taliban" rarely engage in complex attacks of this kind.

McChrystal appears to favor abondoning many of the border outposts with Pakistan. They attract many attacks by Pakistanis and are killing many ISAF, ANA, and ANP.

3. Not to worry.

Palin will be along shortly, leading the Republicans to victory, and all will go well.

4. The GIRoA (gov of islamic rep of Afghanistan) is reporting that the fighters near the Pakistan border in Kamdesh that killed the ANA and ISAF were from SWAT, Pakistan. Apparently these Pakistani Taliban were driven East by the Pakistani Army offensive.

Nuristan violence, unlike Helmand and Kandahar in the South, is heavily Haqqani and foreign fighter.

As best as I can estimate, a majority of American casualties have come from foreign fighters. McChrystal appears to be lobbying to remove ANSF and ISAF from the border with Pakistan (where they are dying at skyrocketing numbers) and redeploy them to Afghan population centers to protect the Afghan people. Karzai wants the ISAF, ANA and ANP to defend the borders, inspite of the heavy casualties.
