Congress blocks $200m in aid for the Palestinians

The United States Congress has blocked nearly $200m in aid for the Palestinians, threatening projects such as food aid, health care, and support for efforts to build a functioning state.

The decision to delay the payments runs counter to the wishes of the Obama administration and reflects Congressional anger at Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's so far unrealised pursuit of Fatah-Hamas reconciliation and statehood recognition at the UN.

  1. I see no problem with that. Cut off aid to Israel while we are at it...but that will not happen anytime soon.
    The Arab countries should step up and replace US aid with their own. That should have been done years ago. If you do not want U.S. influence in the region, don't take the money. The Arabs, especially those oil rich nations, should be ashamed that the vast majority of aid to Palestinians has come from Europe and the U.S.  Solidarity should mean a bit more than just rhetoric.
