WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO GET AN AMERICAN MAD?

Americans put up with a lot before they get mad….. is it finally happening?

You didn’t get mad when the Supreme Court stopped a legal recount and appointed a President.
You didn’t get mad when Cheney allowed Energy company officials to dictate energy policy.
You didn’t get mad when a covert CIA operative got outed.
You didn’t get mad when the Patriot Act got passed.
You didn’t get mad when we illegally invaded a country that posed no threat to us.
You didn’t get mad when we spent over 600 billion(and counting) on said illegal war.
You didn’t get mad when over 10 billion dollars just disappeared in Iraq.
You didn’t get mad that the government spends 3 Billion dollars a year to support an oppressive apartheid regime in Israel.
You didn’t get mad when you found out we were torturing people.
You didn’t get mad when the government was illegally wiretapping Americans.
You didn’t get mad when we didn’t catch Bin Laden.
You didn’t get mad when you saw the horrible conditions at Walter Reed.
You didn’t get mad when we let a major US city, New Orleans, drown.
You didn’t get mad when we gave a 900 billion tax break to the rich.
You didn’t get mad when the deficit hit the trillion dollar mark.
You finally got mad when the government decided that people in America deserved the right to see a doctor if they are sick. Yes, illegal wars, lies, corruption, torture, stealing your tax dollars to make the rich richer, are all okay with you, but helping other Americans…oh hell no.

The guy might have had a point until he wrapped it all up with the lines above. Simplistic nonsense. Nobody is questioning anyone's worthiness to see a doctor. There are some  very good reasons why people object to the Health Care reform bill in its present FORM!
One can always count on the far left and far right to outdo each other with toxic hyperbole.

  2.  "Nobody is questioning anyone's worthiness to see a doctor ..."
I'm not so sure. I reposted this and got a lecture from an old sparring partner. He seems to think that if you don't have the wherewithal, you should crawl off and die. It's natural selection; poor people are life's losers and should be weeded out.
I think a relevant point was made in one comment - that it's what the media wax indignant about that grabs the public's attention. And what the media soft-pedals on falls by the wayside.
I'm sure vza will know of a newspaper in Hairpin, Missouri (circulation 2,500) which proves that I'm paranoid about the media's manipulation of public opinion.

Give me a moment and I'll find it!

  4. Actually, I do agree there is media manipulation. In fact, the piece you and Tgia posted from Desert Peace clearly shows, based on his simplistcc characterization of Americans opposed to the Health Care Reform bill, that he was very successfully manipulated by our media.

  6. It is the idea that you should think of no one else but yourself and yours,  that is it.  The only thing that matters is your own self-actualization.  That is why people can languish several miles from people almost dead and not even bat an eyelash.  Than of course,  on top of that is that those that have should just either keep what they have at any cost,  or get more.  It is that "rugged individualism" bullshit,  that is not true to life in any sense of the word.  Lets not forget that it also is  the stupidity of people who swallow propaganda,  and think it is nothing but the truth,  some present company here involved.  Nothing would be complete without this link -

  7. Oh,  and lets not forget,  this is also the reason (above) why people do not collectively rise up about anything that will cause substantial change.

  8. Now you mention it, vza, I can detect the machiavellian machinations of Rupert Murdoch and other billionaire press barons behind the Desert Peace post. Well spotted!
