I have a feeling that this comment (quote by Ayn Rand) posted by Jemmy on Zinn's post, is going to ruin my day. Maybe, after all, I have been, in life, ill prepared to face and withstand such lack of humanity, empathy and simple decency..This, for sure, is not going to make me any less misanthropic, something which I'm more inclined to be day after day. (I told you it's going to ruin my day!)
" ... you can't claim one should respect the 'rights' of Indians, when they had no concept of rights and no respect for rights. But let's suppose they were all beautifully innocent savages--which they certainly were not. What were they fighting for, in opposing the white man on this continent? For their wish to continue a primitive existence; for their 'right' to keep part of the earth untouched--to keep everybody out so they could live like animals or cavemen. Any European who brought with him an element of civilization had the right to take over this continent, and it's great that some of them did. The racist Indians today--those who condemn America--do not respect individual rights." (Ayn Rand)

  1. No one thought twice about rising this bitch up,  because she reinforced all of their self-centeredness and lack of concern for their fellow man.

  2. There's even an institute dedicated to her and her teachings...I wonder if there's one in Israel as well. Wouldn't be surprising...

  3.  An acquaintance of yours, V?

The Elizabeth, N.J., man was traveling to Chicago after reportedly attending the Los Angeles Anarchist Book Fair last weekend.

  8. Anarchist AND al-Qa'ida, not bad. Reminds me of the wobblies who were arrested during World War one and accused of being pacifists AND spies for the German military.

  9. No verdict on Ms. Rand from vza. Should one assume that hers was not "a cynical view of history"?

  10. More than likely vza likes her Jemmy,  and just does not want to comment about it

  11. Behold the accomplishments of the Great White Man,
You may be jealous, but not  judgmental, too.
If the Indians had better ships,
We  might now all be Sioux.

  12. If that sort of thing makes you feel better about yourself than you're not as "great" as you like to think, bullshitter.

  13. Sorry to disappoint, gentlemen, but I rarely comment on what does not interest me and  I confess I was supposed to read one of her books in college and found it a great bore and never finished it. I know only sketchy details about her and her philosophy. I did read a review of a biography of Rand this past summer in the NYT, I think.
But of course, you really are not interested in those details, are you? Your posting was merely a self- congratulatory way to highlight your rather narrow view that if vza does not worship at the altar of Howard Zinn's "history", then she must be a follower of Ayn Rand and by extension selfish, heartless, and simply not as good a human being as you are.
    Well, bully for you!
(Uh, Oh! More evidence of imperialist tendencies! Didn't that great American, Teddy Roosevelt say that a lot?!)

  14. <span>"...selfish, heartless..."  I don't know about the others here but I did not come to that conclusion by assuming you advocated for Randites,  but by you're posts

  15. That is not a condemnation vza,  it is only a request for you to access the summation of what you have posted here.  We all have terrible faults,  and no one is without guilt

  16. The new, kinder, gentler v? I am impressed!
    :)
But really, all you are saying is that if I do not agree with you, I must, therefore, be selfish, heartless, etc....
