"Healthcare for immigrants"
One of the reasons the human rights of immigrants are so egregiously violated in most destination countries is that trade unions have shamed themselves by bitterly opposing immigration, seeing foreign workers as competitors rather than brother & sister workers. Immigration is a major issue in Greece, Spain, & Portugal, where millions of working people have for months been fighting a pitched battle against austerity policies. Here, a firefighter at an anti-austerity protest in Pamplona, Spain, holds up a banner reading “Healthcare for immigrants.” The grandeur of that solidarity is not just a beacon; it is politically transformative.
