What, reporters aren’t just spokespeople for the US military?

Books by American journalists about Iraq that avoid discussing the Iraqis themselves.

That’s a real achievement.

  1. Not seeing things from Iraqi perspectives is a huge problem for many westerners in general.

In this specific case, however, the journalist was just writing almost a diary of his experiences embedded with a US military unit. The book was never intended to be more than that.

Why don't more journalists embedd in the IA, IP, or the ANSF and provide a glimpse of the world from their perspective? Many Western journalists leave a lot to be desired.
