The Washington Post reported Tuesday that the Pentagon is deploying the 13,000 new troops in addition to the 21,000 extra combat soldiers approved by Mr. Obama in March.

In other words, by enlarging this conflict, President Obama is governing as if the opinion of a majority of Americans and of his own political base did not matter. In a democracy, a politician can do that for a while, but not for very long.

  2. Obama has governed that way since day one. Of course, this is no surprise to those of us who saw him as a charlatan from day one, but some of his cult followers are starting to have a rude awakening. He's already showing big drops in support among independent voters. Also, a big part of his voting bloc was young voters, who are easier to shift when it comes to voting.

If he gets a strong primary challenger I doubt he'll have a second term. Not that I think he cares: Obama is in this for the post-presidency, for the book deals and $$$ speeches and easy post-presidential life.

but if this was the case he would do whatever he thought was right - and he certainly isn't doing that. i think he likes the power - they all do i'm sure.

  5. The title of Obama's book deal in 2012

How I bogged down the US army in a mountainous land for years and it cost me my presidency.

For a while, the Republicans and some neocon Democrats are going to cheer him. But later on, most Americans are going to turn against him.

  9. I think the Afghans need about $250 billion in international grants over the next 20 years to win. The Taliban has killed more Pakistani Army and Police in recent years than the total number of international forces killed in Iraq and Afghanistan combined.

There is a scary video of the Taliban in 2008 taking down an elite battalion of the Pakistani Army that fought with distinction in Somalia in the 1990s. This Pakistani Battalion was fought well, with Tanks and heavy air support. They still lost.

And now the Taliban stormed the HQs of the Pakistani Army. The Taliban seemed determined to overrun Pakistan, Afghanistan, Northern India, Uzbechistan, Tajikistan, and the Shia. They seem determined to hit Russia, China and India hard. Al Qaeda a few days ago said they will hit China.

In every Afghan public opinion poll taken since 2001, about 90% of Afghans view the Taliban unfavorably. Afghans are scared of the Taliban, and increasingly fear that the world will abondon them to indefinite Taliban occupation and oppression.

I don't blame them. Congress is trying to cut off aid to Afghanistan, and recently cut off $900 million in funding for the ANSF. The Congress is populated by idiots. You can't trust many Congresspeople as far as you can throw them.

Where is the Messiah. How come he isn't making speaches, and demanding that Congress give the Afghans some money so that they can defend themselves? How come Obama isn't demanding that the Russians, Chinese, Indians, Japanese and others don't give the Afghans more money?

Afghans are fighting and bleeding in huge numbers to keep the rest of us safe. And where is the gratitude? I don't just mean among my fellow Americans, or the Europeans. Where is the gratitude in Iran, Russia, China, India, and the Stan countries that would be in deep du du if the Afghans lost?
