Palestinian football player defeats the ‘lies and smears’

A right-wing smear campaign targeting a National Football League player ramped up this week. At the center of the story is Oday Aboushi, above, with his family, a Palestinian-American Muslim draft pick for the New York Jets. But by week’s end, the smears, started by the Islamophobic organization FrontPage, had fallen flat. Even the Anti-Defamation League was denouncing them, and Aboushi issued a proud and defiant statement characterizing the attack as “lies”:
 "It is upsetting to see people try and tarnish my reputation without even knowing me," Aboushi said yesterday in a statement issued by the team. "But I appreciate all the support I have been getting from people of all backgrounds across the city and country."
