Benny Morris wants to ensure Islamophobia is used against Palestinians too

"Discontent with Christopher Hitchen’s almost but not quite uniform hatred for Muslims, Benny Morris decided to pen a Haaretz op-ed that encourages Hitchens to extend his prejudice toward Palestinians as well.

He begins by explaining Hitchens’ “no love for Muslims” views, as printed in his latest book:

[The Islamic Arab world] is a world riddled by corruption, violence and brutal autocracy, gradually falling into the grip of a nihilistic or medieval Islamism that is challenging the core values of the West.

Of course, the right thing to focus on here is Hitchen’s prejudice, his loathful, dripping racism, which can exist only by ignoring (willfully) the corruption, violence, and pretenses of democratic participation that form the real “core values of the West”. But Benny Morris is the delightful chap who documented systematically the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in 1947/8 and 1967, concluding thus:

Let me reiterate, the refugee problem was caused by attacks by Jewish forces on Arab villages and towns and by the inhabitants’ fear of such attacks, compounded by expulsions, atrocities, and rumors of atrocities—and by the crucial Israeli cabinet decision in June 1948 to bar a refugee return.

“The policy was to prevent a refugee return at all costs…. In this sense, it may be fairly said that all 700,000 or so who ended up as refugees were compulsorily displaced or ‘expelled.’
