Anger is a legitimate emotion in the face of injustice. Passive acceptance of evil is not a virtue.

8 years old Gaza child playing, marvelously, the Qanoon
Mahmoud Kohail, 8, from the Gaza Strip, won the Palestine-wide Arab Music Competition for his qanoon playing. He has been studying music for less than one year.
Loved the video--something beautiful that you don't often hear coming from Gaza. Hated the shirt. His parents did not understand what it means (I can't believe they did). But what a luck, I wanted to post this on my facebook, I can't now
I agree that the parents had no idea whatsoever..Why not posting it on FB still. I doubt people would think that the parents knew what it meant anyway..
I agree that the parents had no idea whatsoever..Why not posting it on FB still ?. People will work it out. They know that the parents aren't that reckless.
But it still bugs me, where did the T-shirt came from ? Locally manufactured ? out of the question, and of course can't be imported . Any Sherlocks still around ?

TG,

I think I'll follow your advice. My first instinct is not to trust public opinion. Perhaps this is a failing on my part, but it does reflect my experience, especially when it comes to coverage of the Middle East. Why can't news from Palestine, for once, be just perfect? Here is a beautiful story coming from, of all places, besieged Gaza. A young boy playing a very difficult instrument, and then a T-shirt that ruins everything....

I know that I'm being unreasonable, but like vaa, this t-shirt still bugs me

Abu Zuhair I would have no problem posting it..It's obvious that the parents are unsuspecting, and even more so the child himself..Just put a mention about the T shirt and people gets it, no doubt. As for the T shirt itself, it could be donated or maybe sold by a cynical, "fashion-forward", Israeli company who always manage to infiltrate Palestinian markets and sell their junk..
I was so enchanted by the music, I didn't notice the T-shirt. It's obvious his parents did not know what it meant and it's moving the discussion away from the great music and how talented the Palestinians are in mostly anything they do. It's no wonder the Israelis keep trying to keep them down because its obvious that once given the opportunity, Palestinians would easily surpass Israelis. They would also surpass most other Arabs too.

I agree that they're capable of surpassing all. I remember schoolmates..Bright, brilliant, top of the class and when they played football, we knew we were doomed versus them..The country has produced intellectuals of the most brilliant variety in the most abominable of conditions..Talking about thgis reminds me Europe's Jews..the thrive to achieve and do well. Strange.(not really)..

BTW, did I read well what's written on his Tshirt? I can't believe it!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I like what's written on his T shirt..What were his parents thinking?
ReplyDeleteLet's just assume they don't understand what it means.
ReplyDeleteOr perhaps it's a US foreign aid T-shirt ??
ReplyDeleteAs for the music it's awesome .
US foreign aid to Gaza?!! Via the PA then!
