Bill de Blasio surrounds himself with hawkish
supporters of Israel. But that wasn’t always the case for the likely
next mayor of New York City. The Democratic candidate used to be
surrounded by critics of the Israeli occupation while he was a member of
a Latin American solidarity group. “There is a striking disparity
between what he says now about Israel and what he thought about
Nicaragua,” one activist who worked with de Blasio in the early 1990s
said. Above, de Blasio shakes hands with the hardline former Foreign
Minister of Israel, Avigdor Lieberman.
