Pentagon cautions WikiLeaks over new document dump

SAN DIEGO, Calif., Aug 12 (Reuters) - The Pentagon on Thursday told WikiLeaks it would be the "height of irresponsibility" if it went through with a new threat to publish outstanding documents it had on the Afghan war. Amid news reports that WikiLeaks plans to soon release about 15,000 documents it had held back last month, Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell repeated a U.S. demand for the whistle-blower site to expunge all classified material from the Internet and return the material it had to the U.S. government.

  1. Wikileaks shouldn't dump the data set. It includes intelligence from many other countries, including Pakistani intelligence, Afghan intelligence, and the intelligence services of many differnt ISAF countries. This raw data isn't America's to dump.

The Afghan intelligence service is already irate about the first dump, and the fact that many of their Afghan and Pakistani civilian sources were named in it.

  2. "WikiLeaks caused an uproar when it published more than 70,000 documents last month, at a time when U.S. public and congressional support for the nine-year war in Afghanistan is flagging."

That is the real objection,  the war is flagging - and the only way to keep the fires stoked is with lies,  misdirection, and omission.

  3. V, hundreds of Pakistani and Afghan civilian lives are in danger because of the data dump. The data dump includes names, places, times, methods. It is extremely damaging.

Who is lying, who is misdirecting, who is omitting?

You know who the Taliban and Al Qaeda are and what country's establishment created them and for what purpose.

  5. r.s. More than 85% of Afghans oppose the Taliban. The Afghans will defeat them and send them back over the Durand.

  6. <span>"Who is lying, who is misdirecting, who is omitting?"</span>

The occupation forces lie,  misdirect and omit - particularly in regard to the number of civilian deaths,  rules of engagement,  goals regarding the occupation.  However anan,  you do not want to know anything about that,  for whatever reason(s).  You're questions are spurious,  because you swallow hegemony whole,  a willing ignoramus.

The people being lied to are the American public,  and other host nations of the aggression.  You never found a murderous liar you did not like anan, you are a leach on the dominant in any unjust war.

  7. V. How please don't accuse the GIRoA and ANSF of lying or of being some kind of occupation. This reminds me of non Iraqi Sunni Arabs claiming that that the Iraqi Army was an army of occupation [often they would drop the pretence and simply call it Iranian.]

Please read the latest UN report on civilian casualties for the first 6 months of 2010. According to the UN, only 12% of all civilian deaths in Afghanistan are caused by the Afghan government, Afghan National Security Forces or ISAF.

The Taliban [an army of occupation supported by you know what countries] is murdering Afghans at a rapid rate:

  8. V, I realize that you like many Americans hate the UN and regard it as illegitimate. Your position has some merit. The UN is also a beligerent in Afghanistan, openly backs the Afghan Government and ANSF, and is biased against Al Qaeda and the Taliban.

But don't trust the UN. Look at any NGO report you want to.

Your caring for Palestinians does you credit. Please care for Afghans to. Please remember that the Taliban treats Afghans worse than the Israelis treat Palestinians.

  9. Apparently anan,  you have read zero of the leaked reports - I thought as much.  Conversing with you is like trying to communicate with one celled creature - simply amazing.  A lot of words with no information,  except skewed reports.
