Obama tells Turkish prime minister that Ankara's position on Israel and Iran could lower its chances of obtaining U.S. weapons, the Financial Times reports.U.S. President Barack Obama has warned the Turkish prime minister that his country's strained ties with Israel and increasing support of Iran could hinder an arms deal between Ankara and Washington, the Financial Times reported on Monday.
“The president has said to [Recep Tayyip] Erdogan that some of the actions that Turkey has taken have caused questions to be raised on the Hill [Congress] . . . about whether we can have confidence in Turkey as an ally," one senior administration official told the Financial Times.

ReplyDeleteWhat I don't get is why should Turkey be concerned about losing an arms deal since there are many other countries on the market..Russia, France, Britain etc.

TGIA, I am fuming at Obama. How dare he. He was suppose to be the chosen one. The One who would transform the world and save us. And now he pulls a fast one like this [caveated that this is true.]
1949-2010, Turkey was a much closer and more important ally of America than Israel. Turkey had preferential access to cutting edge American military equipment and R&D, access denied to Israel. [There is a lot of anti ISraeli sentiment in the US military, CIA and State Department, in part because of Israel's long time close alliance with Russia and China, and Israel's policy of giving top US technology to them even when America objects.]

ReplyDeleteIf it isn't, then Obama has really let all of us, me included, down. Obama, you are either with us, or you are with the Takfiri. Turkey is an important leader of the international effort against the Takfiri. So back Turkey, Trust Turkey. Let Turkey guide us on how to deal with Israel/Palestine.
