Lebanon occupation's bitter legacy

AlJazeeraEnglish May 25, 2010Ten years ago, Israel's tanks trundled out of southern Lebanon after keeping a presence there for 20 years, battling both Palestinian and Lebanese fighters.
The withdrawal was welcomed by most Lebanese, but it left the mainly Christian militia, which fought alongside the Israelis, vulnerable to investigation by the Lebanese authorities. Many of them sought refuge in Israel.
Al Jazeera's Jacky Rowland reports from the Israel-Lebanon border where the legacy of the war has made it dificult for some families to rebuild their lives.

  1. This whole thing is confusing. Why can't Lebanese return to Lebonon?

Just interacted with a Jewish American who was convinced that the Palestinians were Takfiri commited to wiping out the Jews. He thought the Palestinians would chase the Jews even outside of Israel until all the Jews were dead.

He seemed to think that 120 million people around the world wanted to kill all the Jews and take the threat very seriously.

He said, there are only 13 million of us left.

TGIA, he really meant every word. He wasn't making it up. There are many like him. This person wasn't stupid. He was a smart educated, sophisticated GI.

Granted you can argue he isn't an Israeli and doesn't have on the ground experience with Palestinians, but still.

Where does this deep fear and paranoia come from? How can Palestinians and Arabs alleviate it? Unless this fear is dealt with, there can be no success or justice for the Palestinians. These deep fears are no aberation. They are deeply felt.

  2. I really didn't know what to say.

I said that if the Europeans and Sunni Arabs unite to try another holocaust against the Jewish people, there are many in the world who like Jews and would warmly welcome and admire Jewish immigrants (true.)

I said that Jewish people could always move to China, India, Singapore and Hong Kong. They really like Jews. More so than even Americans.

I also argued that the greatest threat of another attempted Jewish holocaust came from Europeans rather than Arabs. TGIA, I used some of your arguements that Arabs were less anti Jewish than critical of Israelis; and that Europeans were far more anti Jewish.

  4. Not an acceptable answer TGIA and you know it.

Are Palestinians suppose to fight Israelis for a thousand years because Arabs aren't willing to alleviate Israeli excessive fears and paranoia?

It doesn't matter if the fear is irrational. It needs to be addressed because it exists.

You don't even realise the obvious ridicule of this situation. That it's for the victim of rape to make sure that the rapist isn't all too scared of being blamed. Give me a break.

  6. You just don't get it. There is a real fear that all Jews are being targetted for extermination. There is a real fear the world might become Jew-less.

    Arabs just have no idea.

Please stop the term rape. Do you have any evidence of Israelis raping Palestinians?

Confiscating property paying no price at all or below market prices isn't rape. Its wrong, but it isn't rape.

Lebanese members of the SLA have the right to return to Lebanon anytime ,providing the state has it's day in court .
    Confused ? .
Look up who the SLA are and what role they played during the Israeli's occupation of south Lebanon I'll give you a hint :a bunch of traitors ,murderous thugs who were paid regular salaries ,armed and controlled by the IKF to do their dirty work in Lebanon.

Remind you imaginary friend ,as a Jew he can get settled in the OT in some evicted Palestinian owned home and see how quickly he'll overcome his fear !
PS: the house comes with a financial reward.
    Your ignorance is unlimited.
