When President Obama announced on Tuesday night that "Operation Iraqi Freedom is over and the Iraqi people now have lead responsibility for the security of their country," he was signaling an end to the U.S. military's effort to remake Iraq — "nation building," as it's sometimes known. "As our military draws down," he explained, "our dedicated civilians — diplomats, aid workers and advisers — are moving into the lead to support Iraq as it strengthens its government, resolves political disputes, resettles those displaced by war and builds ties with the region and the world."

Tony Karon fundamentally does not understand Iraq. The fully soverign legitimate Iraqi government formally requested the international community and UN to train/equip/fund their Iraqi Army and Iraqi Police in 2004.
ReplyDeleteThis has mostly been accomplished. The Iraqi Army is a great success. As a result most of the international trainers are going home.
If Iraq's neighbors try to defeat Iraq, the Iraqi Army will make them regret their mistake.
It is true that Iraq's neighbors and their proxies inside Iraq managed to murder 15 thousand Iraqi security forces 2003-2008. But the Iraqi Army is stronger now. The neibhors will find messing around in Iraq much harder.

ReplyDeleteAlso I see that you don't pretend that the lions of the Iraqi army have smashed all Arab armies combined. Why? What made you recover reason, logic and sense of measure?
