Women's rights

The saga continues of the Democratic Party using women’s rights to justify war, voting for a war criminal as long as he mouthes pieties about reproductive rights, & now commentaries of how this election has turned the tide of misogyny by the election of several women candidates. Oh cry me a river of bullshit! A uterus has never been a measure of good politics or do we have to specifically name Margaret Thatcher, Hillary Clinton, Madeleine Albright, Imelda Marcos, Michele Bachmann, Sarah Palin, & the pathetic Ann Coulter?

The empowerment of women is an issue of the greatest importance because there will be no social transformation without their leadership. But let’s cut the crap! It is not elites like Elizabeth Warren whose roles are transformative. She is nothing more than a self-serving bureaucrat. It is Dalit women in India protesting caste violence; it is the Indian women who lived in a stinking river for several days to resist land dispossession; it is Central American mothers investigating the disappearances of their migrant children in Mexico; it is landless women farmers in India marching hundreds of miles to protest neoliberal dispossession of their lands; it is Palestinian mothers protesting the confiscation of their lands & the incarceration of their children; it is African immigrants protecting their children against starvation & predation; it is undocumented Latino immigrant mothers trying to shelter their vulnerable children from child labor unprotected by law; it is Black mothers trying to feed their children & keep them from being unfairly incarcerated; it is Afghan mothers grieving their children forced to migrate for work. Forgive those of us who don’t get weepy over Warren’s election; she believes in war. We believe in justice.
