PLO chief: Abbas going to Security Council

BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- President Abbas will apply to the Security Council for United Nations membership as scheduled on Friday, PLO secretary-general Yasser Abed Rabbo said Thursday.

Abed Rabbo said there has been no agreement to give the UN Security Council more time to discuss the bid other than the legal period which the UNSC takes to review any submission, official news agency Wafa reported.

  1. Don't you think it would be better to go before the General Asembly and get a vote first?

  2. This was supposed to be the deal. A vote at the GA first and armed with wide support they'd present their case to the SC but it seems that the PA changed their strategy, not sure why.

  3. “We must go to the Security Council first because the General Assembly cannot grant Palestine UN membership as an independent state,” he said. “There will be a vote in the General Assembly after the Security Council approves our application for full membership status.”
