  1. I wouldn't make too much of this. No doubt he is doing the rounds of the news stations backtracking on his outburst. His party did oppose the Iraq war, but under another leader who was quickly dumped, ostensibly for other reasons than his anti-war stance. This character Clegg has been shedding all his party's policies since making his faustian pact with the Conservatives. He is despised by his own party members, the public at large, and, probably, the people he helps to keep in power.
He is out of his depth as a government minister, and his gaffe (for that's what it was) resulted from his losing his cool as the opposition spokesman was demonstrating how he had deceived MPs on another matter. That said, the object of his illegal war jibe is a loathsome creature steeped in the blood of innocents.
