Still raising the flag..
I'm surprised to see that this blog is still attracting some readers (apart from the very loyal few regulars, thank you very much by the way) from as many countries. I was having the impression that it was becoming a small voice in the desert as I was, as you might have suspected, letting go (Too tired, having my art rather neglected, too depressed witnessing on a daily basis the utter inhumanity and depravity in the news that I'm mostly concerned with, no good for my health)...But it's a pleasant surprise and it may even give me the extra motivation to keep going and not abandon the ship as I feel I'd be letting some people down..I'd hate the idea. So..thanks again for the heads up..

I'm one of those who follows your blog on regular basis. I came to this blog through AA, Palestinian Pundit, Meanwhile in Palestine and Iraq, and then the AA's Comments Section. From this history you realize that I'm a big fan of Asad, Tony, Christian Sunni (so sorry for losing her), and Molly (respect her, but don't necessary agree with everything she says, still wish she would contribute more). I never commented a word of encouragement to any of these blogs I love. Keep up the good work, for it makes a difference even if people don't mention their appreciation.

Thanks Abu Zuhair..It was obviously a good idea to put this flag counter as I had no idea someone like you would be following though I could be suspecting that it could be the case..I hope you would, in the future, drop a line to tell us what you think..Thanks again..
ReplyDeleteI'll drop you a line right now. For me this blog complements the good work that AA and PP do. I'm sure that there are many people, like me, who appreciate what you do here, but, like me, they are too complacent (not to say lazy or cowardly) to express their appreciation to what you do. I hate to see it disappear from the blogosphere like so many that meant something to me. I can't speak about the totality of your audience here, but I can (I think) speak for the complacent, lazy, and cowardly: your activism makes the complacent, lazy, and cowardly uncomfortable. And this, believe me, is a great accomplishment. A voice in the desert is still a voice that shames those who have a voice but choose to remain voiceless. It is not that I necessarily agree with with everything that you, Tony, As'ad, Molly, and other wonderful bloggers post or link to, but you are still better human beings for doing what you do.
ReplyDeleteOne more thing my friend.... I don't think that quitting this blog will improve your health unless you stop following the news altogether. With this blog you share your burden with others and that's exactly what the doctor recommends.
Abu Zuhair
How wonderful to see all of those flags, Tgia! You do a superb job with the blog.
ReplyDeleteIf you give up, TG, your return will be by popular demand.
ReplyDeleteI suspect that, having banned some trolls, you now have a following that finds less to dispute or comment on. You have become a source of information, rather than moderator of a discussion group. I also think that sometimes you post so much that slow readers like me have to pick our way through, follow up on links, and then sit back exhausted. I admire your industry, but it all takes up time.
By the way my comment on banning trolls is not a criticism; your blog, your rules.
PS. Where is Molly these days? And what's happened to v?
Thank you vza..I'll try to do my best, promise..I know you appreciate art, so I'll be posting more of it..
ReplyDeleteThanks Jemmy. Yes I'm aware of the distinction between being a source of infos and being a forum for discussion and debate that can only be stimulated if I let the rather obnoxious ones post as they wish and boy do they wish..But my feelings are that with the likes of fleming and such what we had was more provocation, tease and taunts than contribution. Certainly a problem of attitude where the fellow was using this site to pleasure himself abusing and ridiculing the commentors. My intention in banning him had less to do with restricting his freedom of speech (and what a speech that was, spewing hated and vile racism!) than to deprive him from such a satisfaction of using this tribune to abuse whoever shows on the day.
ReplyDeleteAs for V, I see his comments up occasionally on Mondoweiss but not at the same regularity he used to have over here. I'm suspecting that he too enjoys some adversity or having someone to beat on..The same with R.S..He didn't like my banning of fleming, as I could understand.
Molly seems to be busy with her youngster as she is as rare on the Palestinian Pundit.
Thank you for the kind words, Abu Zuhair.. I'd appreciate your critisims as much as your comments if you have any to make. If you have any ideas on how to improve this site please drop me a line.
