Lockerbie: Megrahi was framed

By John Pilger
The hysteria over the release of the so-called Lockerbie bomber reveals much about the political and media class on both sides of the Atlantic, especially Britain. From Gordon Brown's "repulsion" to Barack Obama's "outrage", the theatre of lies and hypocrisy is dutifully attended by those who call themselves journalists. "But what if Megrahi lives longer than three months?" whined a BBC reporter to the Scottish First Minister, Alex Salmond. "What will you say to your constituents, then?"

  2. If Megrahi had been allowed to continue with his appeal it would have shown that the Scottish judges had suppressed evidence proving his innocence. The reputation of the Scottish legal system was MacAskill's chief concern in releasing Megrahi.
If Megrahi is shown to be innocent, all those relatives of the Lockerbie victims who accepted the big payoff from Libya (some refused it) will be shown to have been a bunch of leeches, profiting from the deaths of their "loved ones". They are terrified that they might have to pay the money back.
And, of course, the CIA/British government conspiracy to pervert the course of justice  must remain deniable.
