Jeremy Thomas, the Oscar-winning producer of Creation, said he was astonished that such attitudes exist 150 years after On The Origin of Species was published.
"That's what we're up against. In 2009. It's amazing," he said.

Sorry, this guy is way off base. We have had many controversial films distributed here in the U.S.
ReplyDeleteBill Maher's Religulous is a most recent example. I think it's really about the almighty dollar more than anything else. No big bankable stars, a British film without Hugh Grant etc. The money people are just being cautious. Once the film starts garnering awards and respectable attendance numbers in the English speaking coutnries, he'll get a distributor.
I can't wait to see it. Darwin's life is so interesting. Paul Bettany is a good actor. He was in Master and Commander.
ReplyDeleteIf you are ever in London, a trip to Down House in Kent is worth a visit. Darwin's house is a Heritage site and is a short train ride or drive from London.
