A tribute to SNCC

Children & the elderly have always been a part of social protest & social transformation. And pictures are always worth a thousand lies to exclude us. This photo from Cairo, Illinois is a Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) action. SNCC was an important civil rights organization that began with Black power & ended with opposition to the Vietnam War. Its activists played an important part in the Black power & feminist movements. Those men, women, & children will be forgotten by now but they ought to be honored for their contributions to social transformation. They’re in their 70s & 80s by now. God bless their belligerent & rebellious souls! The future owes so much to them.
