By Michael Moore
I have come to believe that there is no getting around the fact that capitalism is opposite everything that Jesus (and Moses and Mohammed and Buddha) taught. All the great religions are clear about one thing: It is evil to take the majority of the pie and leave what's left for everyone to fight over. Jesus said that the rich man would have a very hard time getting into heaven. He told us that we had to be our brother's and sister's keepers and that the riches that did exist were to be divided fairly. He said that if you failed to house the homeless and feed the hungry, you'd have a hard time finding the pin code to the pearly gates.

Michael Moore is stupid like Dick Cheney. Capitalism was alive and well in Sumaria, Egypt and South Asia 5,000 years ago. Who is he to criticize capitalism?

Ha ha ha!
You're confusing TRADE and commerce with Capitalism which is a modern cocept with far more implications. Check it out.

Not a very sophisticated way to put it, anan. Actually it's very..hmnn..childish, if you see what I mean..
BTW, Anan..I've noticed that you didn't comment on what Molly posted about Jesus and capitalism and chose to attack M.Moore !! Why?
ReplyDeleteMolly, this is a very good article - in fact, I owuld call it a bridge piece, to bring more understanding by a common appeal. Even though I am not religious, I think Mr Moore did a good job on this one.
ReplyDelete"Capitalism was alive and well in Sumaria, Egypt and South Asia 5,000 years ago. Who is he to criticize capitalism?"
ReplyDelete... and he's seen the polls, in hieroglyphics, cuneiform and half-uncial, that show 99% satisfaction with the capitalist system.
"How far, O rich, do you extend your senseless avarice? Do you intend to be the sole inhabitants of the earth?
ReplyDelete"Why do you drive out the fellow sharers in nature, and claim it for yourselves? Nature gave all things in common for the use of all; usurpation created private rights. The earth is the Lord's, and we are his offspring. The pagans hold earth as property. They do blaspheme God."
St. Ambrose (340-397)
Plus ça change ...
The phallacy is, of course, the assumption that there would be the same or greater level of innovation, the same or greater level of wealth creation, the same or greater level of human advancement WIHTOUT capitalism.
ReplyDeleteThis is clearly an absurd assumptiopn. Look at Russia. Look at China before it started embracing capitalist principles.
Its really that anti-capitalists cant get over their rage and jealousy. They would rather the entire world be poorer, less advanced and stuck in neutral/reverse than some have more and some have less. Its pettiness taken to absurdia extreme.
Hate to tell you folks, but even though Im not religious I do think there is more to life than just survival or life for the sake of life. If we, as human beings can advance ourselves beyond this mere planet, we may find one day out what this whole dance is all about. But if instead, we insist that everything must be "fair", that no one has less or more than anyone else, well, we will all wallow in misery and degredation until some big ass asteroid comes along and wipes us out like the dinosaurs. Surely you people think the human race should aspire to more than just eventual extinction.
It is interesting that out of all the comments I have made on different posts that it is this one that disappears...
ReplyDeleteAnyhow, I said this was a good post, and Mr Moore did what I would term a bridge piece here - helping a broad variety of people to cross over. In fact, the post was so good I highlighted it on my site :) Along with more information about Mr. Moores movie.
Tell us about supply side Jesus fleming....lol

ReplyDeletePhallacy, Fleming? Heehee.
ReplyDeleteAnd what do you think Michael Moore is jealous of (other than thin people)? I'm sure he is fairly wealthy.
ReplyDeletePhallacy - Exactly! haha
ReplyDeleteMichael Moore is enraged at the cards life has dealt him. Wouldnt you be? The guy could make the most successful movies in the world - he still cant get a date.
Oh. Molly
ReplyDeleteAre you trying to confuse Phleming with phacts?
I love pub humor.
ReplyDeleteDick Cheny is pretty stupid too. Michael Moore shouldn't be stupid like Dick Cheney. Why is saying this "childish"?
ReplyDeleteIn what way was the ancient Indus civilization and the ancient Sumerian civilization not capitalist governed by the rule of law?
ReplyDeleteRemember that we retain detailed business legal court case records from 6000 years ago in Sumeria. We also retain ancient South Asian texts that discuss "rule of law" and business.
"<span>he still cant get a date.</span>" It is pretty mean, and I know I shouldn't laugh, but still.
ReplyDeleteJust because Cheney is a dick doesn't mean Michael Moore is one too.
ReplyDeleteWhy trade or commerce couldn't be regulated at that time. Why does it have to be called capitalism when it is ? It doesn't make sense.
ReplyDeleteA good one Jemmy.
ReplyDeleteRule of law and Business? Intervening in the market? Ur-Keynesianism, I bet there's a Sumerian forerunner of "Das Kapital" out there somewhere.
ReplyDeleteWHo said I agree with all the govt intervention? I dont.
ReplyDeleteAyn Rand had it right. The slow death of capitalism will eventually ensure the exterminination of mankind. The have-nots prefer this ending to all others in which some attain advanced levels of understanding.
Anan, and what does capitalism have to do with the rule of law? What a fucking idiot
ReplyDeleteYou know what fleming, there is no such thing as non-state capitalism, never was never will be (maybe in your dreams). Do you know why? It is because whatever government in a capitalist country is the handmaiden of the moneyed elite capitalists. Or, has it never dawned on you to ask the question "why dosen't the government listen to the people, but only to moneyed lobbies?"
ReplyDeletePerhaps one of the most telling moments in Morre's movie is when Reagan is listening carefully to someone like a good little boy. The mistake that Moore makes is thinking that this process is just 30 or 40 years old, when this has been the function since the inception of this nation (it was just that earlier generations knew how to hide it better - see the history, as an example, of where the Secretary of Treasury office holder comes from for the most part). Scroll down a little bit on the page and watch the video -
